Data preservation is a niche interest of mine, and one of the things I've been thinking about has been storing written data long-term, since paper tends to wear out and break down easily so writing things onto cloth is a little more effective, but prints wear out, so you have to embroider them. So now I'm thinking about making a bunch of #ESP32 and other circuit diagram schematics and then screen printing them, making a #quilt and #embroidering over the screen printed lines. 🪡

I don't sew. I've never made a quilt. I know people that have and have seen the amount of effort and time that goes into that and I know I'm not going to finish this, but I still really like the idea.

As "threatened" a few days ago, I have started embroidering and this is my first little piece of work. I like it very much. And even with needle and thread my little, always suppressed goth heart shines through. :owi: 😅

I mocked up my CNC embroidery machine in Blender. I've got all the motors working as expected. Now time to either 3D print the sewing arm, or weld one up.

Hey there, talented #crafting folks on fedi! Do y'all have recommendations for good resources, starter kits, videos, supplies, and patterns for a total #embroidering beginner?

I've been interested in pursuing anotber crafty hobby for a long time, and I'm always drawn to beautiful #embroidery. I imagine I'd have to start with basic patterns, but the goal would be designing and making those intricate art pieces with lots of layers and little pearls and such.

Around this time of year last year I finished my first #wheeloftime read through. I did a combo of reading the books and listening to them while I was working or #embroidering. I knew I wanted to commemorate finishing it- so behold, a #watercolor and #handembroidery map of the #wot world.

Anass2nd of Instagram was kind to let me use the #map they made as a basis for this personal project.
