Prologue: over christmas, I spent my vacation setting up a backup system. VPS to the homelab via VPN
Act one: install neomutt on my computer
Act two: I mess up the neomutt config
Act three: a keystroke error deletes every single email in the INDEX folder
Act four: I freak out but then remember I have daily mailbox backups, fingers crossed because I've never actually done a rollout
Fifth: the data is there, I restore it
What was the name of the play? Run and backup your data!!! And yes, validate the backup!! -

I often miss @startmail from lists of people leaving #bigtech.
Why? As far as I can read they have a good track record, have hired the right people to setup their encryption and really seem to care about #privacy.
So for #emailhosting they look like a good choice? Perhaps a bit expensive?

So... I've had the email for my personal domains hosted with Rackspace for a decade. Turns out they no longer want to be in the hosted email business and my costs for email will triple starting in March (going from USD2.99 per mailbox per month to USD10.00 per mailbox per month).
I'm just a small fry, but even that is an obscene increase with virtually no notice.
Time to move.
Also given the state of the world, moving to a non US hosted service feels prudent.
Anyone have recommendations for a email hosting provider with non-US servers (preference given to Canadian ones actually).
Please boost.

Out of curiosity I just contacted @fastmail to see if they hosted my email in Australia. Turns out they don't, its all US-based.
I knew they had offices there but this is something else, calling them an Australian business isn't really true. Honestly I'm pretty disappointed and not sure what to do next.
I get that places still host in the US but I was working to de-Google myself and ultimately reduce my reliance on it, and this just kinda sucks.

I'm probably going to migrate my website/email from Dreamhost to CanSpace; the previous front runner (whc.ca) seems to have ghosted me. They won't answer the question "Do you offer discounts if I pre-pay for multiple years." 🤷

Any here try the self-hosted forwardemail.net? A possible setup instead of mail-in-a-box and iRedMail? As I have several family members that have their email with me, I need quality/secure dashboard access to lots of the email and spam tools. Most offerings are lacking in this area.

I'm specifically looking for a Canadian host that has something like Dreamhost's "Shared Unlimited" plan.
The Canadian hosts I've found still seem to think that storage is expensive and email addresses are rare resources to be doled out one at a time.
I don't even have crazy needs; my website is entirely static, low traffic, and not huge (under 30MB total), and we've got probably 5GB-ish of email spread over 3 accounts. 🤷

Plan to move a couple of mailboxes (imap accounts) from one server to another, and at the same time also point the MX record to the new server instead of the old.
Any caveats to thing of? Things easily forgotten about?
1. Set up new mailboxes on new server.
2. Add all mail aliases that are configured in server 1 on server 3
3. Redirect MX
