James Gunn has confirmed "The Batman" director Matt Reeves' Arkham Asylum series will be set in the new DCU, while sequels to "The Batman" and "Joker" are part of the Elseworlds universe. Reeves' series centered around Colin Farrell's Penguin from "The Batman" is apparently part of Elseworlds as well.

Oh, and the story ends so tragically. Basically if you claim to someone "Did you get to the part where everyone dies?" Well...that basically happens.
It was sad, but it matched the tone of the series and made sense.
Anyways...I've spoken about this enough.

The art was brutal and varied, interestingly, despite it being the same artist for all three stories. The first two were more gothic in tone and style, fitting the story being told.
The third had more of a traditional comic book style, but still flowed well from the previous two as it had moments of utter horror.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It was dark, gothic horror for an interesting, albeit silly concept. I'm glad I read it, but we'll see if I end up reading it again.
Maybe next Halloween.

The first story did a good job setting the framework, as silly as the idea of Batman vs Dracula was, but it was still well done and drafted with dramatic flair.
The story used what looked like pages from a journal with Batman narrating his thoughts the entire time. At first, honestly, it was kind of a chore to read the excessive text thoughts of the Bat, but I got used to it and appreciated it in Volumes 2 and 3.

Volume 3: Supervillains take over the city. Alfred lets Batman come back to life who goes on a rampage, brutally murdering his enemies. Very brutal ending.
Overall, it was an interesting concept. The idea of a vampire Batman is a worthwhile idea to explore, in my opinion. The story overall was well done. The best part was Volume 2, in my opinion, and the introduction of were-cat Selina Kyle was good...and well written.

So, recap - Vol 1: Batman gains vampire powers to defeat Dracula, his friend who was a half-vampire dies. He fights against the bloodlust.
Vol 2: The Joker gets vampires to become his thugs and torments Gotham. Batman eventually stops it with an alternate were-cat Selina Kyle (who dies). In the end, he kills the Joker draining his blood and asks Gordon & Alfred to kill him. They...stake him, but don't cut off his head.

I own the Batman vs Dracula Elseworlds collection that includes Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, Batman: Bloodstorm, and Batman: Crimson Mist. I finished reading it this week, so had some thoughts on the matter.
For reference, the comics are loosely connected to #DCComics Earth 43, for reference. However, that is mostly a connection of aesthetics and in the what if scenario of Batman becoming a vampire to face Dracula. This story is stands alone and apart as a tale about Batman alone, separate from the greater DC Universe.

I'm kinda hopeful for the direction that James Gunn is taking #DC #movies. Making a clear #Elseworlds branding is a good idea!
I would love to see Dick on a big screen so I hope that making Damian first real movie Robin means that Dick is already #Nightwing.
But I'm equally excited for the oddballs like The Authority and Booster Gold. Let's just hope that DC movies main continuity curse will be broken by then. -
