  1. Today we start mandatory water restrictions. I have a competitive advantage because restrictions fall mostly on lawn irrigation and I converted almost all of my lawn into garden. Gardens have fewer restrictions. 🕺

Looking ahead to a strong El Nino, and the resulting hotter and drier forecast locally, I've cut back on planting for the summer.

  6. At least these folks didn't hide climate change under the rug...

  8. We have a ‘super’ #ElNino on the way, due to hit sometime in mid-June and last through next year. Nobody can predict exactly when it will begin and end, or how severe it could be. But we do have some historic references for what a potential worst case scenario could look like - and they portend significant loss of life. For example…
Findings published in the Journal of Climate in November 2018 quantify the 1877-78 event’s regional mortality in precise terms: famine-related deaths between 12.2 and 29.3 million in India, between 19.5 and 30 million in China, and approximately 2 million in Brazil, with the global total exceeding 50 million fatalities, representing roughly 3 percent of the estimated world population of 1.3 billion at the time. - Are we ready? Almost certainly not. We’re too distracted by global chaos, war and the affordability crisis to notice. And, of course, the #TrumpRegime has eliminated research, shut down tracking websites and denies #ClimateChange. #ClimateCrisis
