This makes me feel SO happy. I just found a home for my late mum's precious old 1960's era #Elna #sewing machine - it's gone to a fashion designer in Melbourne. My mum who would now be 108 was a classy lady who made most of her own clothes and she would be SO pleased to know it was going to be used by someone creative 🤗

I find it quite depressing. Products like this which were engineered (Swiss) to an incredibly high standard in the 1960s and will probably keep working long after anything being sold new today (Chinese) even though it's already about 50 years old.
Even the styling is still pretty chic IMHO.

And it's almost being given away because we are inured to #shinythings

Aquest estiu he visitat la Maternitat Suïssa d'Elna. És una visita gratuïta i breu però super-emocionant.
A més, Elna és un poble preciós que va promoure poder fer servir el català als Plens de l'Ajuntament (dret que per cert la República xovinista francesa va impedir exercir).

Visita recomanada.

Oh, I LOVE my #Elna and it has now sewn a really good portion of my wardrobe! Found a machine mechanic (his hands in the photo) who's extra good at working on them, as well. It's SO reliable and so quiet. It was extremely well-used when I bought it for a steal of a deal. I expect to be using it for many years to come.

@earthmothering9 Wow, those old Swiss made machines are beautifully engineered. I still have my mum's Supermatic. Have kept it serviced but it never gets used - daughter not really into that sort of thing 😔
