'Dougle bug' spotted on our milkweed.

These furry little milkweed tussock moth caterpillars reminded me of Dougle from The Magic Roundabout back in the day.

Apparently, although they also eat from the milkweed plants, they eat different parts of the plant than the ones the monarch caterpillars prefer. So are not necessarily a threat to the monarchs. In any case, our monarch caterpillars are few and far between this year and I haven't seen any in that area at all.

Rupert was such a special cat and our first Cornish Rex. 2002-2019 We still miss him.

He was the cat we didn't want! We specially wanted a female, solid colour (brown or black or grey). But the minute we saw this tiny squirming red tiger-marked tabby male kitten, we knew he was ours!

He was not only a wonderful friend and companion, full of character, but when we took him to his only cat show at 8 months old, he won his championship and every other prize going and the hearts of the judges and all who saw him! He then quit competing so as not to demoralize the other cats. He was kind in that way, too.

When I first saw these, I walked up and exclaimed "oh! Aren't you lovely?" As I did this, a fox ran off from behind the patch of wildflowers into the bushes! I should have been silent... (I'm weird, I guess. I talk to flowers.)

There must be a better way to remove cat hair from a washing machine after washing pet blankets, other than running a dark fabrics wash immediately afterwards.
I did put them all though a cold drier for 20 minutes, hoping to get rid of it. But.. no. Some still remains.

They are growing from an old stump which is buried underground now.

We have finally had some rain and these have appeared.

I might have left some from last year over this spot so the spores could fall there. But are these good to eat I wonder?

This photo of a mouse was taken by a friend, in the cafeteria of the main hospital in Halifax, Canada! *

More mice were apparently spotted by this friend at the emergency dept in the Infirmary.

This is the same hospital where patients are advised against drinking or brushing teeth etc in water from the tap. The pipes are contaminated with Legionella.

And the same one where patients are practically suffocating in summer heat as they can't put air conditioners on the floors due to concerns over air quality.

It's a small miracle. He hasn't seen this well in 50 years.
It's not what we expected at all. He thought he wouldn't be able to see properly without rigid gas permeable lenses being fitted in about 4 weeks. If you know the condition #keratoconus then you'll understand why it's been so bad.
This surgeon has performed a small miracle and I could tell by the little smile on his face that he was really pleased with his work.
In 4 weeks they'll reassess, but he's actually driving bare eyed for the first time since he was 18! (Such a relief that I won't have to drive everywhere.)

Homemade Curry Powder

I was making our current favourite curry today - Cauliflower, Tofu and Chickpea Curry (I think I already shared that recipe) when I realised that my homemade curry powder was almost out so I had to make more. I've made this recipe for years and really like the flavour. It's so much nicer than any ready made powder you buy. (It's not specifically vegan, as it's just spices, of course.)

3. Big bowl of plums picked by @StevenKennard (sorry, foxes, you'll have to eat the ones that fell off)

4. Also, not shown, another about 11 lbs of blackberries picked also by the above Master fruit picker, processed and in the freezer (the berries, not Steven).

I feel as if I've stood at the worktop and sink all day. I guess I have!

The village of #Canning was once a ship building town.Ships used to dock here to load apples and potatoes to send around the world.Now the #river is small,just about big enough for a canoe or a row boat.It’s hard to imagine that a ship could ever have made its way up here.There is a #park here and in the summer it is lovely to sit on this bench and see the birds on the water and in the fields edging the dykes beyond.
