🧵 1/41. @StevenKennard finished the stereo cabinet he's been working on for us, and brought it into the house. It's made in solid maple, with the side slats in birdseye (érable piqué) and the rest of the frame, shelves and top in curly (quilted or tiger) maple. It's not easy to show it in photographs, but the figuring is really gorgeous and looks different depending on the light and the viewing angle. He has spent so many years making beautiful furniture for other people, it's a real joy to have this piece for our home. (It's not the first piece he's made for us, just the first in a long while.)
2. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican fair trade 'green' (organic practices) oat milk cappuccino with a 'superfood bite' that hit the spot! I adapted the usual recipe to include unsweetened chocolate chips and that really paired it perfectly with the coffee. The local shortage of 85% chocolate has left a hole in our morning coffee ritual and this has now filled it!
3. I ran (and jumped) for over 10 minutes as part of my morning workout today. For the first 250 steps (running after the workout) I wonder how I'd be able to go on, but after that, I felt I could almost run forever. Almost.

Wait for me!
1. Today was a day I went for a joyride (bike ride that brought me joy), but all on my own. I had Tony with me (more on Tony another time, he's my mascot), but Steven was busy finishing our stereo unit (wait for that one!) and I went to get the mail (1km away) in a roundabout trip of 10km. I had to go slowly through the puddles in the woods as we had had some quite heavy rain, but otherwise it was a quick ride around the block. I gambled and took a road that we usually try and avoid due to the usual traffic. In all the distance I only met one vehicle coming towards me and one behind me, both at the same time and the one behind me decided to overtake below the brow of the hill. The good thing is that there was no collision! The driver of the car coming towards me might never recover his nerves, but mine (and Tony's) stayed steady.
2. I managed to arrange my father-in-law's usual grocery delivery (he's in the UK, I'm in Canada) with minimum stress, despite the fact that Tesco's online ordering calender is one day out of true (book your delivery for Saturday the 9th for actual delivery Sunday the 10th) and everything went smoothly.
3. There were 2 more deer on the #trailcam so here they are for you.

Don't you just love it when the neighbourhood vandals disable your security camera so that they can do their damage without being recorded?
I think from the sounds of it, this big guy was getting frustrated as he tried to drag the camera away.
The camera survived unscathed, but I don't think the evidence from the video is admissible in court. I did get a mugshot of the culprit, which I'll put in the first comment.

2 Factor authenticator app question
I guess I have to look into using a 2FA app at last so...
I am probably late to the party on this, having resisted both Microsoft and Google's offerings up to now. I guess I'm just suspicious of these companies we used to love in the early days.
I've looked at the PCMag review and it seems that their top choice - 2FAS - might fit my requirements. I use both Android (mobile) and Microsoft (laptop, desktop) OS.

Has anyone any experience with this app? Any thoughts on it that might be helpful? Use on Windows and/or Android?

Poor Badger doesn't care for dentistry!
She had a lot of teeth removed about 10 days ago (she suffers from resorption), so that's pretty traumatic in itself. To make matters worse the pain medication made her nauseous so she wouldn't eat and when I stopped giving her that medication she was in too much pain to eat the soft canned food. The others offered to help clean her plate but were foiled in the attempt and went off in a sulk. So everyone was pretty miserable, including Steven and me.
She's doing much better now that she's on pain and anti nausea meds she can tolerate. She's eating again and obviously feeling more like herself.
She'll have to go back to have the others removed in 6 months or a year. They didn't want to keep her under the anaesthetic any longer as her blood pressure became difficult to stabilize.
I don't do well when any in my little family are sick.

After the Salt Marsh Trail we arrived at a beautiful, quite windy Lawrencetown Beach. There weren't too many people on the beach and none swimming, though there were quite a few surf boards and surfers further up the beach.
We carried on a little up the Atlantic View trail, but decided that the stretch we had been through was more interesting, so we turned around to start the return trip.

A peaceful video of the Salt Marsh section of the trail. No drama (there's quite enough of that if you're looking), just calm nature by the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia.

A little further along, the trail passes through a section of 9km (~5mi) of wetlands salt water marsh habitat. It was a former rail causeway, and it was perfect for birdwatching. The path all along this route is crusher dust, now very dry, which explains the thick dust that covered us on our return.

On Tuesday we rode these trails (Shearwater trail, Salt Marsh trail, part of the Atlantic View trail) again. It was a glorious 35km ride! The leaves in the woods section are perfectly beautiful.
I'll post more pictures and videos over the next little while so I don't flood your feeds!
It's almost 1.5 hour's drive to get there (and home afterwards), so would be better not done as a day trip. We were so glad to get away from the smoke and ash, but were straight into the dust! We still need rain so badly. So much dust on the bikes and us. (Actually you could tell, as it was affecting our lungs and tiring us out.)We saw so many lovely birds. There were, among the usual seabirds a black bellied plover, greater yellowlegs, white throated sparrow and we heard the sweet notes of the song sparrow.
Temperature hovered around 19º.C and it was very windy.

On a lighter note (let's face it - almost anything is lighter...). But not any less shocking...
This photo of a mouse was taken by a friend, in the cafeteria of the main hospital in Halifax, Canada! *
More mice were apparently spotted by this friend at the emergency dept in the Infirmary.
This is the same hospital where patients are advised against drinking or brushing teeth etc in water from the tap. The pipes are contaminated with Legionella.
And the same one where patients are practically suffocating in summer heat as they can't put air conditioners on the floors due to concerns over air quality.

This beautiful waterfall is in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. I have visited this beautiful place a couple of times when Steven was teaching at the nearby Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. I love the calm & peace you feel there.
I didn't have a tripod with me that day, so this was taken hand held and I was pleased it turned out as I hoped.

A visit to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is such a pleasure, and we have been a couple of times. There is so much beauty to see in the different seasons. On this occasion in Sept 2019, I wanted a long exposure to give the softness to the fall sliding over the ledge. I had no tripod so I just propped myself against a tree trunk and held my breath. I was happy with how it came out.

Nice, though short walk on Miner's Marsh in the middle of Kentville with @stevenkennard this afternoon. Signs of spring are starting to appear. It was 20ºC (70ºF) so felt very warm. Can you see the goose on the little island? There were also red winged blackbirds and others.

I am going from the sublime to the ridiculous - from the tiny, delicate #hummingbird yesterday to the big and ... not pretty - #pileated #woodpecker posting today.
This #bird makes a dreadful racket when it's drumming into the trees, vigorously creating huge holes.
#Monday is a day for attacking the week like this bird, with enthusiasm, and maybe #coffee .
