I'm so disappointed.

I was really hoping to take my young friend in Iran virtually with me on a bike ride using Signal video chat this week. But in testing it out, once on data the video quality was too poor to be of any use. I tried Meet, Zoom, both equally useless.
She'll be so sad as we were both so excited about it. She can't easily get out on a bike where she is in Tehran. And this would have given us both a lift to our spirits.

I was more concerned about the audio quality using my Shokz Open Run Pro headset (which was amazingly good incidentally) as it hadn't occurred to me that the video on data would be so hopeless - worse than hopeless actually. Sound only is not much use on a bike ride if you're trying to share the scenery!

I've done it too! (Ditched Gmail for Thunderbird*) I already had an email address from my Canadian hosted website, that was already set up years ago.

*I think I still have to have a Gmail email address for my playstore subscriptions, unless someone can enlighten me otherwise. But those emails can be forwarded to my website mail account to Thunderbird.

Last month I asked for recommendations for home air purifiers as we have wanted one for some time and have found the components for the Corsi Rosenthal box to be expensive and rather ugly as a prospect.

The price of this, with taxes and shipping included was so reasonable, that it was a bit of a no-brainer.

This AirFanta 3 Pro was suggested to us as a very reasonably priced ready-made alternative. It will purify the air in up to 3100 square feet, so has an impressive performance.

After watching the videos and reading the technical reviews, we decided to order one. It's exactly the same principle as the CR box, but much quieter, using four computer fans and with all the hassle taken out of making it. There's no need for duct tape and cardboard etc etc. and changing the filters is simple with no need to tear duct tape off etc. And it's much, much quieter than would be a box fan. It's also possible to infinitely adjust the speed of the fans, making it ideal for bedroom or other rooms where at times a quieter fan is wanted.

We liked it so well, that we ordered another one, and friends of ours ordered one for themselves.

We also invested in an air quality monitor, which was rather more expensive, but that meant that we were actually able to see the results of using these in our home environment. The air quality monitor is made in Quebec and was also recommended by the same user here.

That's it. The end of an era.

After over 40 years of working partnership with @StevenKennard , I have today (as of December 31 2024) closed our business.

We were put out of business partly by COVID but mostly by the greed of the insurance company. Well now they don't get any business insurance from us, thanks to their avarice.

But it's a strange feeling. A bit sad.

But no more GST/HST returns to submit! No more vehicle mileage book to fill in on every trip in the car. No more ... any of it! Free!

Golden Light
Today I bring you a ray of sunshine in a daylily. Yellow is not a colour that I can wear without looking pale and drab, but it is amazing to see how a flower can wear it and look stunning every time (even when a little tired around the edges)!
