Ellie Greenwich - Composes, Produces, and Sings
I posted an album from this artist a few weeks ago, and since then have been trying hard to get my hands on this, her other album, at a reasonable cost. This arrived this morning from New York, via Chicago, London and Exeter.
As a writer and producer, she is very important in the history of rock/pop music, and well worth researching for anyone interested in such matters. -
Let It Be Written, Let It Be Sung - Ellie Greenwich
Occasionally, when listening to a record, I like to go down a wee rabbit-hole and look up some of the supporting musicians.
When doing this recently, I noticed a backing singer on a Blondie album - Ellie Greenwich. I'd heard of Greenwich and Barry, the songwriting couple responsible for a large proportion of the bobby-sock hits of the late 50s and early 60s: Da Do Ron Ron, Leader of the Pack, Chapel of Love and many, many more. Could this be the same artist?
Turns out it was, and in 1973 she bought out this album of hits she had helped write, having been discouraged from pursuing a vocal career in the 60s by her then husband, Jeff Barry.
Of course, I had to look for and buy it, and it's a delightful listen. -
