Mucha suerte. 🍀

💸🎄 ¿No te ha tocado #elGordo? No pasa nada.

@tagesschau

Here are the JWST and Hubble images of the El Gordo galaxy cluster, side-by-side with the same scale and orientation.
We can see numerous additional galaxies in the JWST image, while the Hubble image highlights the gas and dust in the cluster.
The thin line gravitationally lensed image of La Flaca, the Thin One, is visible in the Hubble image too, but not the image of El Anzuelo, the Fishhook. -
Here is an image of El Gordo, taken by Hubble in 2012, in visible wavelengths.
It has less detail and shows fewer galaxies then the infrared image by JWST. Inter-galactic gas and dust are seen more clearly in this image.https://hubblesite.org/contents/media/images/2014/22/3364-Image.html?news=true

Inset A in the JWST image of El Gordo shows a long, thin line. Known as “La Flaca” (the Thin One), it is another lensed background galaxy whose light took nearly 11 billion years to reach Earth.

The inset named B contains a bright arc of a galaxy behind El Gordo. It is nicknamed “El Anzuelo” (The Fishhook).
Light from this galaxy took 10.6 billion years to reach Earth, bending around some massive galaxy in El Gordo. The team determined that the background galaxy is disk-shaped, only 26,000 light-years in diameter – about 25% the size of the Milky Way; star formation is already rapidly declining in the galaxy’s center.

El Gordo is a galaxy cluster. A galaxy cluster contains many galaxies, massive and close enough to affect each other. El Gordo mass is ~2000 times that of the Milky Way, ~90% of which is dark matter.
It's takes ~7 billion light-years for its light to reach us (the distance is larger due to inflation).
The image shows many galaxies within El Gordo.
The streaks and smudges are images of galaxies far behind, whose light is bent by galaxies in El Gordo.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Gordo_(galaxy_cluster)

This fascinating image of galaxies and gravitational arcs in the El Gordo Galaxy Cluster was released yesterday by the JWST team.
