In more more positive news, one of my elephant garlic flowers is hatching!!
This is my 6th? 7th? year growing elephant garlic. I have more or less accepted that the bulbs themselves are not that exciting to eat, but I still enjoy the plants a lot, especially the blooms!
The flowers will gradually turn purple in the sun. #gardening #alliums #ElephantGarlic #bloomscrolling

The only one of my elephant garlic to bloom, still wearing its jaunty little hat.
(Before anyone starts giving tips, I have successfully grown elephant garlic for the last 5 years, but last year me and all my garlic got evicted and the already flowering plants endured being put in pots and carted across town in blazing heat. I get why this year the others haven't bloomed. I like the blooms almost more than the cloves.) #gardening @gardening #garlic #alliums #ElephantGarlic #bloomscrolling

I lifted elephant garlic last weekend. I also planted runner beans plus some climbing French beans. There's a lot of vegetation to manage on the plot. #allotment #sheffield #elephantgarlic

I bought some cloves of #ElephantGarlic 7 years ago. Elephant garlic tastes milder than regular garlic.
#climatechange has changed the behavior of #garlics. The warm November led to the sprouting of the unharvested cloves of elephant garlic that were supposed to pop up in spring. But they are surprisingly cold hardy. And they all survived a couple of weeks of 20s this winter.
This is what happened when I forgot to harvest some of them last year. #permaculture #naturalfarming #homestead -
