  1. Per the association’s bylaws, three members of the election committee act as independent trustees. To prevent two of them from colluding to cook the results, each trustee holds a third of the cryptographic key material needed to decrypt results.

“Unfortunately, one of the three trustees has irretrievably lost their private key, an honest but unfortunate human mistake, and therefore cannot compute their decryption share,” the IACR said. “As a result, Helios is unable to complete the decryption process, and it is technically impossible for us to obtain or verify the final outcome of this election.

Keeping votes anonymous is actually one of the biggest (legitimate) obstacles to remote & verifiable electronic voting. If you put in place presumably benign tech where "I" can verify that my vote was registered, it also makes it possible for my spouse, my employer, my church to coerce me to prove what/who I voted for. Vote-selling becomes possible. Verifiable electronic voting would be pretty easy if it weren't for that problem.

  16. #KariLake and the rest of the delusional #MAGAt warriors are attempting to force the country to go back in time, and eliminate #electronicVoting systems in favor of #handCounted #paperBallots. Hand-counted ballots are subject to a massive, exponentially greater error rate than electronic systems, and require a mindboggling number of workers to complete the task. Even with all those people, the count wouldn't be complete before Inauguration Day.

No. The consensus of election-security experts, as presented in the National Academies study, is: we should use optical-scan voting machines to count paper ballots, because those computers, when they are not hacked, are much more accurate than humans."

  23. Van Eck phreaking, also known as Van Eck radiation, is a form of eavesdropping in which special equipment is used to pick up side-band electromagnetic emissions from electronic devices that correlate to hidden signals or data for the purpose of recreating these signals or data in order to spy on the electronic device.

Van Eck phreaking might also be used to compromise the secrecy of the votes in an election using electronic voting.
