🔌🚗 Electric mobility in Germany: Untapped Potential!
Electric mobility has been slow to take off, but there are positive trends. I summarize them in the new #DIW Berlin Weekly Report, based on data collected on the #OpenEnergyTracker. (English version of a report first published in 🇩🇪 in February)

@jbond a few points 2 note on this that should keep you optimistic:
1. Generally v.Small qty of refrigerant in each #HeatPump
2. World moving towards lower GWP refrigerants eg: #R32:GWP=675, & lots now are moving to #R290:GWP=<3 (aka Propane) or #R744:GWP:1 (aka CO2!)
3. Looking holistically, any leaks (which with regulation can be mitigated) are far outweighed from operational #CO2 savings vs use of fossil gas, direct #Electrification (given #CoP) etc.

BC Hydro is finally putting in place time-of-use rates. It only took 12 years after smart meters were installed.
- 11 pm - 7 am: 5 ¢/kWh discount (offpeak)
- 7 am - 4 pm: same price
- 4 pm - 9 pm: 5 ¢/kWh extra (peak)This is a pretty small baby step, but hopefully, we'll see more comprehensive TOU rates in the future. This new rate might be useful to EV owners, but only if their evening consumption isn't too high.

Despite my abhorrence of #Musk, #Tesla has proven that the internal combustion engine is now a technology that belongs in the past.
Tesla dragged the rest of the #automobile industry into the 21st century. Without Tesla’s success, we’d be less further along the curve of replacing petroleum as the primary energy for transportation
