  1. First #EV charging experience at an #IONNA station yesterday, and it was *vastly* superior to others I’ve tried (#EVgo, #ElectrifyAmerica).

First, no account and no app required. Tap to pay just worked, which, I know, seems obvious, but EV owners recognize that as a minor miracle. It was as simple as fueling at a gas station — simpler, actually, as I didn’t even have to enter my ZIP Code, and the machine didn’t beep at me once!

Second, charging started immediately and was super fast. Superior to the others.

Third, it was cheap! 39 cents/kWh. Other fast chargers in my area are ~60 cents/kWh. Some also have 99-cent “session fees.” (I recognize pricing can change; I assume they are starting off low to encourage new customers like me, and will increase later. 🤷‍♂️)

Fourth, the interface and brand elements were great. Everything worked together. What a concept! There are even optional charts with charging curves for the full nerdy level of detail. 🤓

I wish IONNA success! More across #California please!

  6. The #chargers at the #EVGo station I just #charged at are really, really old. Apparently, these were once #ElectrifyAmerica chargers before they sold the station to EVGo. You can still see the residue from the EA labeling.

  8. Electrify America at Plymouth … one charger is down shown in the app… and one more shows available but actually down (won’t activate) and the 350kw that I waited 10 mins for is reduced to about 170kw

I’m glad my car tells me the charging power is limited by the charging station……

  9. I have a Level 2 charger my #ID4Pro #EV at home. I also have a #ChargePoint #EVGo & an #ElectrifyAmerica account.

However, I believe in #BeingPreprared. So, I bought a #J1772 to #NACS #Tesla adapter but I'd only use a Tesla #Supercharger (or destination charger) as a last resort (because I have issues with #Musk ) & haven't even downloaded the Tesla charging app yet, so I can't even use a Tesla charger yet but . . .

Here's an interesting article to those who are interested in #EVs published by #ConsumerReports about their experience charging certain non-Tesla EVs at #Tesla #Superchargers with a J1772 to NACS (Tesla) adapter or with Tesla's #MagicDock . . .

In this episode I play a song by You Am I; buying some cameras seems be helping the dog pee situation; we took the first road trip in the electric Audi; the free credits with Electrify America aren’t of much worse when they never work; I am playing lots of solitaire; I created a spreadsheet to help me make arbitrary choices; I wondered if I was being too hard on dogmatic punks until I heard Chris Shifflett make the same points as me on Turned Out A Punk; Chris Gethard on Death Sex and Money defends making art and having a day job; I migrated from Wilosophy to TOFOP via the Everyone Relax feed; the kid and I have decided to take up watching Australian Rules Football; I used to watch weird shit on ESPN in the 80s; I was knocked out by the Do You Need a Ride podcast merch store; Self-Hosted is on about the enshittification of Plex; I am not buying any more hardware from companies that want to sell me content; I don’t love Jellyfin the way I should; I don’t love Docker the way nerds think I should; I want a color Onyx Boox 10″ but I do not want to pay $500.

  12. First DCFC (DC Fast Charge) with the rental #Polestar2 at the #ElectrifyAmerica outside of Winter Garden, Florida and…. Boy do I miss the charging speeds of the #ioniq5 already. 😢 Only saw a brief (>90 seconds) period of charging greater than 100kW.

But otherwise, have managed to engage full vacation mode. #FloridaMan

  13. Renting a #Polestar2 #EV while on vaca(y) this week - Really digging the Apple Maps in the main steering wheel instrument cluster! 😍

At least the bar for #electrifyamerica is already low, so there won’t be too much disappointment.

  14. One thing that I am learning - gas stations typically have roofs. EV charging stations typically do not. Using fast chargers in the rain is not a pleasant experience.

  18. Access to Tesla's #Supercharger network remains gate-kept by Tesla but the standard for the Tesla-style North American Charging Standard connectors (#NACS} will no longer be controlled by Tesla.

Instead, thanks in part to help from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation {#JOET}, it will fall under the jurisdiction of SAE International, which has promised to expedite its efforts so that NACS can become an official standard within the next six months

Meanwhile more EV charging networks are adding support for Tesla-style NACS plugs.

#Blink revealed that it integrated #NACS into its level 2 and DC fast chargers.

And #ElectrifyAmerica, the country's largest non-Tesla charging network, announced it will add NACS plugs to its charging stations.

#Tesla opened up the latest version of its charging protocols to the wider auto industry in November 2022, renaming it the North American Charging Standard as it did so.

For a few months, nothing much happened, but in late May, #Ford signed a deal to adopt NACS and obtain access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Two weeks later, #GeneralMotors followed, then #Rivian, and #Volvo joined the club.

Most recently, #Honda has announced it will switch to the Tesla Supercharger System.

  19. I got my Kia EV in January and it came with 3 years to use 500kWh of free Electrify America usage. Because the nearest station to me is 14 miles away, and there’s not much else, I hadn’t been using this.

So it’s September, now, and I used my first EA charger while I was in Denton. Also my first ever DCFC session.

9 months to finally get around to this. Was it needed? No. I used it because it was there and free to me.

  20. Grabbing a late lunch at #RoundTablePizza and topping up the battery while I’m here. At the rate, the car will be charged faster than my pizza is cooked!

  21. Sitting in my #IONIQ5 at an #ElectrifyAmerica 150kW charger (which is only putting out 80kW), next to a Bolt at the only #350kW charger.

My #IONIQ5 can pull 240kW. The Bolt is limited to 50kW.

  24. The largest publicly traded full-service #truckstop and #travelcenter, TravelCenters of America (TA), is teaming up with #ElectrifyAmerica to deploy 1,000 DC fast chargers along major #highways to meet the growing number of #electricvehicles on the road.

  25. Why are all #EV charging stations except Tesla badly maintained? I have used #Chargepoint, #electrifyamerica and #evgo and anecdotally can say that there is a 50% chance at least one charger is broken.

The problem is the charger maker wants to sell hardware and the property owner just wants a checkbox in Yelp and Tripadvisor listings. Who is looking at the customer's experience? No one!

Make maintenance and uptime a requirement (else penalty!) and see how things change.

  26. The best part of the #EV life so far might be meeting other #EVdrivers at the charging stations! ⚡️#electrifyamerica
