Via the #ElectoralReformSociety, I learn that #PrimeMinister #AndyBurnham has announced a National Commission on #ElectoralReform
We need to not screw this up (this time). We need a voting system which is proportional, so the results more closely match the votes cast.
But just as important is a preferential system, so voters can actually vote for who they want to win, without fear of vote splitting or need for tactical voting.
No voting system is perfect, but a good way to achieve this is the #SingleTransferableVote in multi-member constituencies, which delivers both of these.
IMHO we need a grassroots campaign calling for STV, that's getting out there and making the case to the public, not the politicians. Get them to pressure their candidates about it.
There's an ERS petition at https://action.electoral-reform.org.uk/page/201578/petition/1 - I've signed it to put a bit more public pressure on.
