Twice yearly request to Massachusetts to send "I voted" stickers with absentee ballots. I had to duck into my polling place to get them.
(Also, polling places should accept absentees. And there should be at least six times the number of ballot drop off points.)

August 26, 2026PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — "Maine’s Republican nominee for governor recently told a crowd of supporters that he would ask a top Department of Homeland Security official to send U.S. Marshals and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to polling places in the state for this fall’s midterm elections, according to audio obtained by The Associated Press.
"During an Aug. 20 event in Arundel, Bobby Charles told a group of supporters that he would ask #TomHoman, the White House #BorderCzar, to send federal agents to polling places in the weeks before #ElectionDay. The audio was first reported by the Bangor Daily News.
" 'Here’s my secret,; Charles told members of a Maine Young Republicans chapter. 'I have a friend named Tom Homan. Tom and I used to get on Fox all the time together. Tom’s an awesome guy.'
" 'I’m going to ask Tom, I’m going to actually — three or four weeks before the election, maybe three — I’m going to make an appeal for ICE and #USMarshals to be at our voting booths,' Charles said, according to the audio."

6% of #Texas #voters >1.2M people have had their voter registrations suspended, many might not even know. Why - voter’s county doesn’t know their address or thinks they’ve moved. Doesn’t stop people from voting in Nov #midterm #elections, but makes it much more difficult. If voter shows up on #ElectionDay & registration is suspended they must fill out “statement of residence” form, if they’ve moved to new county they’ll either be reqd 2 vote in their old 1 or use provisional #ballot #elections

If you’re new to following me, you haven’t seen one of my election day threads. I’m an election officer in Fairfax County, Virginia, USA. Tomorrow is an #electionday in this county (and probably other Virginia counties), so I will do a live thread throughout the day. I’ll hashtag it #electionofficer so you can tune in or tune out as it suits you.
I try to talk about what’s happening, how we handle it, what the rules are, etc. Ordinarily, tomorrow would be a sleepy election. A single party primary. But there’s been talk of the US department of justice sending “observers” to polling places. It’s no big deal, but that would be a very non-sleepy thing to happen.
My job runs 5am to 9pm, so it’ll be a long thread over the course of the day. Now to try and get 5 hours of Zzzzzz

"It sure looks like #TechBillionaires and foreign #dictatorships gave us Trump in 2024. This is as bad as the massive #RussianBot presence on #Facebook and #Twitter back in 2016, which Robert Mueller documented gave Trump the presidency that time.
"A peer-reviewed study released Thursday in Nature, the world’s most prestigious scientific journal, has finally put hard numbers to what a lot of us suspected the moment the 2024 election was called for Trump (and Republicans in Congress) by the big networks: the algorithms that control our largest #SocialMedia platforms intentionally and explicitly tilted the playing field, and they tilted it for Donald #Trump and the #GOP.
"Researchers at New York University Abu Dhabi created hundreds of 'sock puppet' #TikTok accounts in New York, Texas, and Georgia (via VPN), uploaded to them either pro-Democratic or pro-Republican videos to show their political leanings, and then watched what TikTok’s algorithm fed back to them every day over the 27 weeks leading up to #ElectionDay.
"Across more than 280,000 recommendations, Republican-seeded accounts received about 11.5 percent more 'party-aligned content' than their Democratic counterparts, while the pro-Democratic accounts were force-fed 7.5 percent more attacks from the other side. As Professor Talal Rahwan put it:
'The algorithm wasn’t just giving people what they want; it was giving one side more of what the other side says about them.'"The pro-#rightwing bias was even more dramatic when researchers looked at how the candidates’ own accounts did. Candidate Trump’s official TikTok videos were pushed to Democratic-leaning users 27 percent of the time, while #KamalaHarris’s videos only reached Republican-leaning users just 15.3 percent of the time.
"Translation: Leading up to the 2024 election, TikTok was working overtime to expose Democrats and lefties to MAGA’s most persuasive messaging, all while shielding rightwingers, independents, and Republican voters from Harris’s voice."

The Democratic party symbol is a strutting rooster (!) and the Republican symbol is an eagle clutching olive branches but standing on top of a shield laying on the ground. Truly bizarre.

One year ago today. Zohran's primary win was so dramatic and unexpected that he didn't even have a victory speech prepared. (And I suspect most people on Fedi didn't yet know who he was!)
Today the socialist & left bloc in NYC is challenging at least 5 U.S. House seats, 2 state senate seats, 9+ state assembly seats to prove this wasn't a one-time thing.
