CW: Stranger Things season 4, Parents
If there's one thing that I think Stranger Things gets eerily right about the childhood of GenXers, and I definitely think there's more than one thing, it's the disconnected parents.
Most of them aren't main characters. None of them intend to be bad parents. All of them are disturbingly unaware of what's going on in their children's lives. Joyce and Hopper are the most dialed in parents on that show and even they are frequently not able to be fully there for their kids.
It's very solid writing. It's also triggering. Watching Susie Bingham's Dad get duped by his kids because he simply has no clue what they're up to all day hurt. As long as the house doesn't burn down, he has access to his computer, and there's food on the table, he just doesn't show up. That was way too on the nose for comfort.
Yes I know I'm late to the party. You don't have to speak up about that.
