  4. @hyperallergic 's write-up on Amy Von Lintel and Bonnie Roos' book "Three Women Artists: Expanding Abstract Expressionism in the American West" (from 2022) really makes us want to read the book.

    It also explains a good bit about Elaine de Kooning's painting "Rio Grande" (1959) from our collection. We tend to think of De Kooning as a New Yorker (and she was!), but she also spent time in the Southwest and it inspired her work.

  6. James Balestrieri's review of the exhibition "Southern/Modern" has so many insights about individual works of art. On Elaine de Kooning: "The latticework window and aperture forms, heavily outlined in black, recede and come forward in opposition to the more sinuous white paths and shapes, imparting a dimensionality that defies the apparent overall flatness that is expected in Abstract Expressionism."
