This was the result of a very special workshop on ekphrastic poetry today.
I am a sorceress, twice in exile –
they claim my magic is merely madness, but
those with the eyes to see know better
I am the voiceless breaker of curses, until now
bearer of grief no one knows about
I am no one’s prisoner anymoreto know myself is to know my power
to know myself is the key to my freedom
I have all that I need
there is an embarrassment of riches in my heart
and though you may not like what you see
you might be shocked by it
terrified by it
I have looked within so I can look without
I see you for all that you are now
and you hold no charm for me
I am made of night and waves and song
water and air, wrath and lightning
while you are made of nothingness
I do not need you, you need me
you will no longer have my painso here I go, I’ve broken my chains
and the ties that bind me
and I take my first steps into the dawn and

I'm curious about knowing more of #EkphrasticPoetry. I haven't written it so far, although I think there is some proximity in an *ekphrastic* (emphasizing the etymology) exercise of describing one's emotions. If I do that in a way that is as detailed as possible, with a focus to include as much as I am able to put into words, via an exploration of the limits of my capacity to speak of my own emotions, could that be considered a variant of, or related to, ekphrastic (...)

No.
Stop.
There is no valley here,
Nor shadow,
Nor death
That holds a light to that which I see before me –
Tall trees;
Golden light;
Cool, aching breeze against my cheek
That reminds me
Of all the promises
Dropped like leaves
From broken branches
Onto the decaying souls
Of yesterday’s summer
While fresh life springs forth,
Against odds
And autumn’s steady march
Into that cold winter gloom,
High above the world –
Verdant and new
Atop the slender legs of arboreal giants
Who wait for no man
Nor beast,
Nor dark deity painted white,
As they reach
To worship a sun
That regards theirs existence
