  4. “Graves saw a real and credible swing and had the testicular fortitude to stand by it in the face of scepticism, cruelty, and flat out lies about his record as a pollster. He has been vindicated that something big and substantial is happening, and that we are now in a truly competitive election environment. In many ways, this week can and should be the week the debate about whether the #Liberals could win the 2025 election dies a final death.”

  10. The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius. At approximately 655 light-years from Earth, it is one of the closest of the bright planetary nebulae.

The planetary nebula is formed by the shedding of the outer layers of its central star near the end of its evolution. The energy from the central star causes the expelled gases to fluoresce.

  20. The turnout was great though, we estimate about 120-150 people showed up, which is not bad for a small town of about 36k population.

We had a film on the history of astronomy on an inflatable screen and about a dozen telescopes, have visual, half astrophotography.

It was great to show our astrophotography images and equipment and answer a lot of good questions.

Despite the smoke, I was able to do a polar alignment using astrometry and capture some live images of the North America and Pelican nebulae which were almost at the zenith and were bright enough to "pierce" thru the smoke.

The work on the Newtonian paid off and I'm happy with the results. This was the first time I tried the 150 mm f/5 Newtonian with the Starizona Nexus 0.75x coma corrector/reducer and my older ASI183MC Pro camera. The pixel scale (0.88"/px) with this setup is a good match with the scope's resolution limit and the faster focal ratio of f/3.7 with the reducer helps with the somewhat noisier camera.

  47. I designed and 3D printed a Tri-Bahtinov mask to help verify the collimation of my Newtonian telescope. This mask is similar to a regular Bahtinov mask except it has three times the Bahtinov pattern rotated 120° apart. Aligning the mask patterns with the collimation screws of the primary mirror cell allows using each of the three diffraction patterns to set each of the screws. More info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahtinov

The Tri-Bahtinov pattern was generated with this great tool: satakagi.github.io/tribahtinov, exported to .svg, then converted to .dxf and imported in the CAD software to produce the complete mask 3D model.

I used three neodymium magnets to hold the mask to telescope using the ring with 6 magnets I designed to hold the telescope dew shield.
