  2. England's government is changing SEND support. They promise faster help but some parents fear it will be harder to get EHCPs, which are legal plans.

  3. 2/2

    "We will make sure admissions
decisions account for the needs of
    communities and require all schools
    to co-operate with their local
    authority on school admissions,
    SEND inclusion, and place planning."

Nowhere in this is parental choice mentioned, unlike the #EHCP where it is the primary focus

  4. Bridget Phipson on #BBCLauraK says the removal of the effective #EHCP to Independent Support Plans will mean the government will end up spending more money

She says "we are fuelling the profits of private equity."

My daughter is disabled the transport costs to take her to and from college are enormous

    BP has a point here

  5. Philpson said today on #BBCLauraK that schools will be taking responsibility for SEND children with Individual Support Plans. These she says will eventually replace the #EHCP

Lk says, "Parents will want to know if they have a legal right, as they do now to get the support that their children need."

BP replies "More children will get support..."

    So that's a no then

They will need to vote on this in Parliament.

The backbenchers won't approve taking education off disabled kids

    Stupid Labour

  6. #bbclaurak asks Phillipson if any children will lose their #EHCP

She says details will be published tomorrow

She is asked the same question again

And says they will get "a better quality of support"

She is asked a third time

BP says, "We are not going to be taking away effective support from children .... children will be reviewed"

    Oh dear

  7. Do not tell me Labour is now coming for children with special educational needs!

"SEN funding could be hit to fill welfare black hole" - what!

  8. As a parent who was told their child may have ‘high functioning aspergers’ on their final day of preschool…to finally getting a clinical face to face diagnosis for #autism in Yr 5, I can say categorically #Farage has no comprehension of how longwinded the system is in the UK in terms of diagnosing #neurodivergent conditions.

And that’s just 1st stage…then you have to fight for #EHCP.

  9. Oh yay, a #gossipy #TeachingAssistant is spreading information around about my child's #education difficulties and a load of others.

And this is just after I was so pleased he was going to get an #EHCP

#Complaint to #school has been lodged but so far complete radio silence.

  10. Really niche fist-wave at an unforgiving sky, but fuck me I get so angry every time I have to update my daughter’s EHC plan. These are meant to be legal documents and they’re written with zero care and attention.

  11. Government doesn't care about our children's education, health & care plans, #EHCP; having signed a contract targeting 20% cuts to the number of new education plans for children with special educational needs and disabilities, #SEND, to bring down costs.'

  12. Unbelievably relieved that we finally have confirmation that my son can stay at his school when he transitions into year 7 (and the senior part of his current school) in September. Our LA has dealt with this with their usual aplomb, so it has been a stressful few months to say the least. The process is cumbersome, unfit for purpose and puts the onus on families to fight and fact check at every turn. The distress caused to children like my son isn’t forgivable. #SEND #EHCP #cerebralpalsy

  13. When you chase #ehcp caseworker after a month of no updates & he says he's been too uncomfortable to call bc he's not looked at case yet.
I dare to suggest he is likely not as uncomfy as my son, unable to physically attend sch for weeks.
Seems this comment also discomforts caseworker.
Asked him, between his apologies, if he was looking for absolution...

Really good EHCP reviews. We’ve extended provision for two students as we can work with them more to get them to where they want to be. We’ve showed some really good options to a family who thought they had none for their kid to move on to. We’ve had parents in tears and lots of positive outcomes. It was intense but very good. Now breath.

  15. I’m just aghast at the amount of parent blaming going on from local authorities at the moment, professionals working within these systems, in my view, have lost touch with what they are there for.
Accountable to the money, the referral, their manager but not the child or family, who are being blamed for their failing’s.
