#AI4PEX & #EXPECT joining forces to improve prediction of Climate Extremes in #ESMs
Fantastic momentum at #EGU25! Teams from two #HorizonEU projects came together for a Splinter Meeting to explore synergies and plan future collaboration.
Next steps? We're aiming for a joint hackathon and an ECR meeting to build stronger connections and drive innovation across projects. Stay tuned—exciting things ahead!

AI4PEX @ #EGU25
We started the week in Vienna with talks on heatwaves, wildfires and extreme evaporation by Dominik Schumacher, Lars Nieradzki & Yannis Markonis. On Day 2 we dived deeper into ocean modeling with Hongmei Li and model evaluation using the ESMValTool by Valeriu Predoi. -
Curious about how the emerging OGC API - Connected Systems standard can empower data managers and scientists to efficiently exchange observational data and #metadata? Then don’t miss Simon Jirka’s talk on “The OGC API - Connected Systems: An emerging standard for #interoperable sharing of observation data”
Oral | Thursday, 01 May, 09:45–09:55 (CEST) Room -2.92

I will be presenting at #EGU25 in Vienna about the results of initial (computational) scalability experiments of a process based hydrological model (PyCatch) which we ported to @lue . You can find me this Wednesday between 10:45-12:30 in Hall A, in front of poster board A.45. I would love to exchange ideas with anybody who is also interested in the topic.

The Critical Zone Network of Networks wants you! ...to benefit from their work strengthening connections between scientists asking questions about how the complex systems of the Earth's surface world work together.
DM Cluster member @jmunroe here on Mastodon to learn more if your schedule doesn't allow meeting him in person at this @EuroGeosciences #EGU25 Splinter Meeting.

Our Portable Aircraft Rucksack for Atmospheric Sensing and In-situ Turbulence Estimation (PARASITE) is a meteorological payload we developed for multicopters - here a #dji #Mavic3E. The system measures 🌡️ #temperature, 💦 #humidity and💨 3d #wind vector over 10 times a second (>10Hz).
We applied this system during the @DeutscherWetterdienst #HErZ #VITAL campaign¹ last summer @fzj and are currently improving and validating it further.
Small #UAS (uncrewed aircraft systems) such as #multicopters can bridge the observation gap of high-resolution in-situ measurements in the lower atmosphere (lowest few km).
We'll present more @EuroGeosciences #EGU25 this year.

From April 27th to May 2nd we will be present at #EGU25 in the session organized by Jezabel Curbelo about Lagrangian perspectives on transport and mixing in geophysical fluids:
We invite presentations on topics including – but not limited to – the following:
- Large-scale circulation studies using direct Lagrangian modeling and/or age and chemical tracers (jets, gyres, overturning circulations);
- Exchanges between reservoirs and mixing studies (e.g. transport barriers and Lagrangian Coherent Structures in the stratosphere and in the ocean, stratosphere-troposphere exchange);
- Tracking long-range anthropogenic and natural influence (e.g. effects of recent volcanic eruptions and wildfire smoke plumes on the composition, chemistry, and dynamics of the atmosphere, transport of pollutants, dusts, aerosols, plastics, and fluid parcels in general, etc);
- Inverse modeling techniques for the assessment and constraint of emission sources (e.g. backtracking, including diffusion and buoyancy);
- Model and tool development, computational advances.Find us at https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/session/52516
