Out of 20,000+ abstracts, only 19 contributions were selected for #EGU press conferences – two came from the University of Hamburg. At #EGU26 PC5, Christian Hübscher & Benedikt Haimerl discussed Alaskan megatsunamis, active submarine volcanoes & giant waterfalls.

Überdurchschnittlich viel Straßenstaub in Wien
In #Wien liegt mehr schädlicher #Straßenstaub als in anderen Großstädten. Zu diesem Schluss kommt die Geophysikerin Sylwia Klaudia Dytłow nach Probenentnahmen, die sie für die laufende Generalversammlung der European Geosciences Union (#EGU) analysierte.
... ... Bei den nicht ganz so kleinen Teilchen (0,1 bis 0,2 Millimeter) war wiederum die Belastung mit #Mikroplastik in Wien„gefährlich bis extrem gefährlich hoch“,
erklärte die Forscherin bei einer Pressekonferenz am Dienstag im Rahmen der EGU-Generalversammlung: „Die polycyclischen aromatischen #Kohlenwasserstoffe und bestimmte dieser #Mikroplastikpartikel im #Straßenstaub stellen erhebliche ökologische Risiken dar und bergen potenzielle langfristige #Gesundheitsgefahren durch Einatmen und über die Nahrungsaufnahme.“ ...

This is how Laura Coulson, a postdoctoral #researcher in aquatic biogeochemistry, and Sarah Coulson, a science #teacher for the Anchorage School District in Alaska, collaborated through the #EGU's Teacher-Scientist Pairing Scheme to create this innovative teaching video explaining lake stratification, habitats, and climate change.
