« Cet été a vu la redécouverte du cinéma d’Edward Yang, qui a fait l’objet d’une double rétrospective à la Cinémathèque française et au 53e Fema de la Rochelle, avant que ne ressortent en salle “Mahjong”, “Confusion chez Confucius” et “Yi Yi”. De cette filmographie plus composite qu’il n’y paraît se détache toutefois une question commune : le rapport contrarié de Taïwan avec l’Occident. »

J'ai (re)vu Yi yi.

Enfin, je crois. Le scénario ne m'était pas resté, mais les personnages, si.

Vint-cinq ans plus tard (ou quatre siècles), la vie et l'amour sont toujours des fables sans rime ni raison, et le monde n'est (heureusement) toujours pas comme on l'imagine.

Rewatched TERRORIZERS (1986) dir. by the brilliant #EdwardYang. Recurring themes in his films are urban alienation, existential angst, change, loss and longing. His portrait was the last stencil I did before abandoning my cans of purple spray paint. I placed the stencil randomly, but perhaps appositely, under a sticker referring to the blurring of lines between fiction and reality—a major theme in TERRORIZERS.
