  6. In a notable case, the 5th Circuit is reviewing Louisiana's law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. This raises vital questions about the intersection of religious freedom and the separation of church and state, alongside implications for student privacy in educational environments.

  7. : The work never stops!

At T-ATP, we're reflecting on and incorporating the skills our Founder and Executive Director, Jasmine M. Jackson, learned from her NC education policy fellowship to continue advocating for #cybersecurityeducation and #digitalliteracy for all students throughout North Carolina and beyond.

Below are pictures from the March Washington, DC retreat, where our Founder and Executive Director worked with other fellows to advocate for #educationreform in North Carolina.

  8. : As The Accelerated Training Program (T-ATP) puts the final touches for the Winter Cybersecurity Workshop graduation, I want to thank the National Cyber League for allowing me to write an article describing T-ATP in their January/February newsletter.

The article's title is "Eradicating The Digital Divide, One Student At A Time." In the article, I discuss how my first job, Access to Software for All People (ASAP), set me on my IT/Cyber journey and inspired me to start my non-profit.

At the Winter Cybersecurity Workshop graduation ceremony, the accelerators will receive a certificate of completion and a laptop from our partner, E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide. Watching the accelerators grow this past month and seeing them excitedly learn about #cyber and #digitalliteracy has been a rewarding experience.

We're always looking for new students and schools to partner with to teach cybersecurity education and digital literacy. If interested, please visit our website here: t-atp.org/

  9. : The winning streak continues!!

I completed ALL 24 TryHackMe's (THM) "Advent of Cyber" Rooms. THM always outdoes itself with these rooms. I enjoyed learning about AI, Prompt Injection, C# and C2 servers, and Digital Forensics on an Android device.

Shameless plug - I have created a playlist for all my Advent of Cyber videos. If you want to view it, click the following link: shorturl.at/cfL29.

NOTE - If you're looking for adventure during Christmas, I URGE you to try these challenges if you still need to. Many newcomers to the
#cyber arena feel they need more time to be ready even when they are. If you're in this boat, I promise you will solve more challenges than you think!

Finally, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays... now start solving those challenges!

  10. : Super late post (again), LOL.

I meant to recap my #NCEducationPolicyFellowshipProgram Winter Retreat experience last week, but preparing for finals week has been an interesting experience.

The Winter Retreat was a fun and engaging experience. It was also lovely to meet my fellow cohort members in person as opposed to Zoom.

The retreat's highlight was Dr. Dudley Flood's presentation. If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Flood, he is a former educator and administrator with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction who was instrumental in desegregating North Carolina schools.

Listening to Dr. Flood describe his advocacy in North Carolina and beyond to make education equitable was genuinely inspiring. The crucial part of the presentation was when Dr. Flood told three questions he used when doing advocacy work.

Question 1 - What? (what is the issue that needs to be addressed/mitigated)

Question 2 - So What? (why is this issue important)

Question 3 - Now What? (what is the solution)

While these three questions seem surface-level - answering them provides much context on the work that still needs to be done.

I will incorporate these three questions when doing advocacy work for #educationpolicy, #digitalliteracy, and #cybersecurity with The Accelerated Training Program (T-ATP).

  12. : As I celebrated another trip around the sun this weekend and hashtag#givingtuesday2023, I had a deep sense of #gratitude for where my life is. The older I get, the more I reflect on my teenage years. Whenever I tell people about my adolescent years, they never believe me.

At the end of my ninth-grade year, I had a 1.6 GPA and ten absences from being kicked out of high school and attending a continuation school.

That summer, I lied to get my first internship at a non-profit, Access to Software for All People (ASAP), focused on providing inner-city kids with IT skills. I remember becoming engrossed in learning everything about computers. I didn't own a computer then, so I would go to the library and use their computers to design websites (hashtag#webislife!). At the end of the summer, I was hired part-time during the school year. After the following Fall semester, I turned my grades around and earned a 4.0.

I always credit ASAP with setting me on my path and destiny. I have done amazing things, such as graduating with my Bachelor's and Master's in Computer Science and a Graduate Certificate in Information Security and Privacy. I was personally selected to be a research intern with Clarence "Skip" Ellis, the first African-American to graduate with a PhD in Computer Science. I traveled domestically and internationally to present my security research. None of these things would be possible without ASAP.

You’re wondering why I shared this story. I have a non-profit, The Accelerated Training Program (T-ATP), focused on providing underrepresented groups with #digitalliteracy and #cybersecurity skills.

We recently had two autumn workshops with K-12 students excited and skeptical about cybersecurity. After the students were fully immersed in cyber, I saw the same excitement and thirst for knowledge I had when learning about computers at ASAP. These students worked on cybersecurity challenges outside of class. At the end of the workshops, the accelerators received laptops from our partner E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide to continue their cyber journey.

T-ATP is currently looking to grow our team with additional board members. Please consider volunteering if you're passionate about digital literacy, cybersecurity, and digital inclusion for underrepresented groups. If you would like to donate monetarily, we're also accepting that.

  15. The 2021 census figures show a decline in the number identifying as Christian and an increase of ‘no religion’.

Here’s my initial thoughts on the results and why it should be a wake up call for policy makers and commentators:
