Dear Londoners - I feel you.
I spoke about the world where we expect AI summaries to be correct and the dangers that brings at #EDU24 last week.
Adversarial responses to AI summaries make that even worse, and of course SEO will be pushing things up the AI summary ranks even more.
Sigh.

The first full conference day of #EDU24 is rolling along at full steam. Brene Brown's talk was excellent, and her thoughts on power over versus power with and power of will stick with me.
What's next? Well, on my side I get to talk about effective cybersecurity programs with Helen Patton at the EDUCAUSE Commons Cybersecurity Theater. For us that means talking about AI and engaging the audience in a fun conversation.

Today's day long pre-conference at #EDU24 is around vendor partnerships. We're spending the day with a room full of engaged vendors and higher ed folks figuring out how we might work better together.
We're having some fascinating conversations, and doing a lot of listening. I'll be interested to see where this goes, but it's a lovely start so far!
In the meantime, I'm having fun handing out my Troublemaker ribbons to folks who find me and ask for one. They're going fast!

My next #EDU24 recommendation is to meet some new people. Higher education is an amazing place to work because of the people.
So, what if you don't know lots of folks? Or you want to meet someone who you don't know.
The good news is that there are a lot of what I call "EDUCAUSE super-connectors" - people who know lots of others from across the range of attendees.
So - catch a board member, an EDUCAUSE staff member, a community leader, a presenter and just...ask! Odds are you'll get help.

As I kick off my #EDU24 posts, one of my first recommendations every year is to try a Braindate.
https://events.educause.edu/annual-conference/2024/agenda/braindate
They're a hosted conversation with someone about a topic of interest. They're also a great way to meet people you may not know, to explore interesting topics, and to challenge yourself with new views and ideas.
For those who aren't here, or aren't in higher ed - Braindate style sign-up conversations are a great thing to add to your conference too!

This week, EDUCAUSE, the national organization for higher ed IT is hosting our annual conference in San Antonio. We're tagging it as #EDU24
Almost 8000 folks from institutions around the world and from vendor organizations will be in attendance. It's a great chance to learn, to network, and to explore.
I'm hoping some of the other higher ed folks here on Mastodon will be creating some buzz here - we're doing cool stuff including having Brené Brown open the event tomorrow with a keynote!

Nice stroll through San Antonio's Riverwalk on my way to @Educause's Annual Conference (#EDU24).

Uni of Sydney is running some kind of 'sprint' course about AI to teach directors the basics of what the tech is about.
Getting directors to learn something about how tech works is a bold idea.
