Shepherded by Jeffrey Richmond-Moll and Shawnya Harris with a slew of coauthors, this book accompanies the exhibition that opens February 14 at Peabody Essex Museum, August 8 at Georgia Museum of Art and April 2027 at North Carolina Museum of Art. #EdmoniaLewis

Edmonia Lewis is one of the most fascinating figures of the 19th century: a Black and Indigenous woman who was also a successful sculptor in a time when any of those three qualities would have been a hindrance. Our museum has been planning an exhibition of her work for some time now, and we just received a Terra grant for $75,000 that should help kick that research into high gear.
