Many #edibuddies have created and posted AI policies, and I suppose it's past time to do the same.
I included this in a LinkedIn post today:
"I do not use generative AI when I edit. I'm here to help you strengthen your voice, and AI has no role in that beautifully human process."
I think that's a decent start. I also need a written policy about editing AI-generated text. I work with human authors, not LLMs. I do need to acknowledge nuance involving "AI-assisted" text, though.

• I love sharing grammar tips.
• Last I knew, some of my mutuals were in the middle of interesting-sounding WIPs, and I want to know how those are going.

I have a friend who's looking for a developmental editor to help complete the process of divorcing a novel from its fanfic roots. It's a M/F romance, set in the Old West. You must be familiar with Lonesome Dove (LD: The Series and LD: The Outlaw Years).

I went to CMOS Online to check something this afternoon, and I was squeal-in-excitment delighted to see that there would be website maintenance today:
"PLANNED SERVICE UPDATE: CMOS 18 IS ON ITS WAY! CMOS Online will be running an exciting update...as we install brand-new CMOS 18 content."
Don't get too excited, I told myself. The new edition doesn't release until September.
Now, I'm on the website again. Is this for real? The 18th edition is up???

Grammarly, do you see a comma there? Does this LOOK like a nonrestrictive phrase? Okay, maybe it kinda looks like it. But it's decidedly not.
This silly app...
I get extra annoyed when I remember that people with less grammar-related training trust Grammarly. They're being misinformed.
I suppose that's why I and other #edibuddies decided to edit. We can serve writers better than any program can, and we enjoy doing it.

As I said last year, I love how we get to be ourselves.
It's a professional conference... and we're fidgeting on camera. In some cases, our messy rooms are visible. Half of us are probably in pajama pants.
We're showing off fidget toys and being open about ADHD meds wearing off. We're bravely joining conversations (sometimes merely by being present) because we know it's okay (and even expected) to be socially clumsy here.
So thankful to be among my people!

Day 1 of the Neurodivergent Publishing Conference was great! I'm tired, so I can't share reflections on the meaningful sessions. Gotta save energy for day 2. But I will say...
I greatly appreciate the speakers.
I enjoy conversations with other attendees. I wish I had the energy to chat with them more.
Oh, and the venue? Amazing. The conference takes place on a pirate ship and a nearby island. (Yes, it's a virtual conference.)

Is the use of "alleged" correct in this sentence from @washingtonpost ?
"The judge overseeing a civil trial over alleged business fraud committed by Donald Trump and his company issued a gag order in the case Tuesday barring the former president from making public comments about his court staff."
The judge already found T to have committed fraud for the past 10 years. Nothing alleged about it. Amiright? Or no?

Something awry with today’s Observer newspaper. A Q&A with Rowetta (Manchester singer with Happy Mondays etc.) seemingly published with the answers from actor Mathew Horne. Rowetta gains a Norwegian wife, a baby son, and (most unlikely of all) a love of Tottenham Hotspur FC.
