Stattdessen müssen junge Mädchen in Kitteln im industriellen Waschkeller unter der Knute der lesbischen "Oberin" schuften, der Bucklige würgt munter vor sich hin und das Bordell ist echt süß. that describes a group of people, I'm sharing this The Terrible Gang (the original title is The Terrible People). I like and have read several of Edgar Wallace books a long time ago, but I think I didn't read this one.
This book has two adaptations by the same title, a silent serial film from 1928 (considered lost) and another film from 1960.

To Have and to Hold (1963), A British Edgar Wallace B-movie scripted by Jimmy Sangster. A cop gets involved with a woman who thinks he ex wants to kill her. Stretches credibility just a tad at times but overall enjoyable and nicely twisted.

In Edgar Wallace's The Door with Seven Locks a retired cop has to deal with a burglar hired to pick the lock on a tomb, a stolen library book and keeping tabs on an errant lord. Hints of gothic creepiness. Hugely entertaining.

Act of Murder (1964), a British Edgar Wallace B-movie, involves a romantic triangle and from the start the plot twists come thick and fast. A psychological thriller with lots of paranoia and a pleasingly hard-edged nasty streak. Great stuff.

We Shall See, a 1964 British Edgar Wallace thriller with some nasty emotional betrayals and twisted relationships. At the centre is a woman who thinks everyone hates her. Turns out to be more interesting and quirky than you expect. Good film.

The Strange Countess (1961) an early entry in the German Rialto Edgar Wallace krimi cycle. There's dirty work afoot in a castle. A first-rate krimi with a definite gothic horror vibe, hints of madness and some nods to German Expressionism.

The Curse of the Hidden Vault (1964) is a typical early Rialto Edgar Wallace krimi. In other words it's hugely entertaining. Some good plot twists and visually impressive and imaginative, especially the wonderful hidden vault complex sets. Plus, Klaus Kinski!

The Hound of Blackwood Castle (1968), one of the later colour German Rialto Edgar Wallace krimis, with a bit of a Hound of the Baskervilles vibe this time. A visual delight, with the gothic trappings laid on extra thick. Hugely enjoyable.

The Verdict (1964) is a British Edgar Wallace B-movie. It concerns a gangster and a dubious visa which is a clue to a murder 20 years earlier. Well-made, well-acted, fast-moving, witty and clever with an intricate plot that works perfectly.

The police are rather interested in a Mr Valentine. His rich girlfriends seem to keep dying.

This one has a very clever and deliciously nasty little plot.

The Black Abbot (Der schwarze Abt), a 1963 entry in the West German Edgar Wallace krimi film series.

The story has all the classic Edgar Wallace ingredients, mixed to perfection. There are possibly ghosts, there’s the mysterious Black Abbot. And countless secret passageways. Lots of double-crosses. Greed and madness. There’s love and lust. And an ancient map which could reveal a treasure’s location.
