As the Eden Project North (Morecambe) gathers pace, so success breeds success at fund raising;
its a well known habit that charity funders often prefer to offer grants/support to projects that are already successful rather than risk being 'first movers' on project seeking large scale funding.
So, we now see Omaze (of the TV ads to win a £1m house) donating 4.5mn for a significant element of Morecambe Eden's internal structure.

The now slightly reduced Eden Project North in Morecambe is edging towards construction.
This project stems from the vision of one man: Ian Hughes (seldom mentioned in coverage of the project), whose initial feasibility study was what I used to get Lancaster University enthused about the project, and prompted the development of a partnership with Eden that made the whole thing a possibility.
Sometimes one person can make a difference!

Meanwhile in Morecambe, ahead of the construction of the new Eden Project North, the ground works have thrown up reminders of another large project on Morecambe sea front; the Morecambe Super Swimming Stadium.... opened in 1936, finally demolished in 1976.
As the Midland Hotel looks forward to a new neighbour, memories of its old neighbour remind us the Morecambe has a glorious past (not that the local have forgotten that).

Although to some extent a technical issue, its good to see that #Lancaster City Council's investment in #EdenProjectNorth has been approved as a 'proper use' of public funds... every positive decision in the maze of funding is a further step to seeing this groundbreaking & transformational project arrive in #morecambe!

For those of us who live in or new #Morecambe, the derelict site of Frontierland (featured last year in The Bay) has been an eyesore & wasted opportunity on the seafront for years.
Three years ago #Lancaster Council bought the site & now, as the public consultation period ends, it looks like redevelopment might actually get under way.... to complement the new #EdenProjectNorth which is just the other side of the Midland Hotel.
Lets hope this works out (this time!)

As #EdenProjectNorth navigates the Levelling Up funding process & the match funding from the private and grant-awarding sectors continues to be committed, the head of the project asks #Morecambe to 'be patient'...
with the project slated to be up & finished by the end of 2026, lets hope it doesn't get caught up in the (likely) chaos a change in Govt.
Eden is likely to be a game-changer for Morecambe and the region... but there's many a slip twixt cup & lip...

As a Southerner turned Northerner - I move North over 15 years ago, the grumbling is something I've noticed a lot... however, it is unevenly distributed.
In the North West a particular hotspot would be #Morecambe... and at the moment quite often targeted at #EdenProjectNorth (which is subject to, shall we say, a mixed reception)

Great to see #Morecambe (partnered with Silverdale) featured in the Guardian this weekend - mentions #EdenProjectNorth which is going to see a major shift in the town's reputation.... we locals already cherish the town (with all its unevenness), perhaps give it a visit - the views across Morecambe By are worth savouring.

Hot on the heels of #levelingup money for #EdenProjectNorth, the long awaited refurbishment of the town's magisterial Winter Gardens has just been given a boost with a £2.8m grant from the Cultural Investment Fund...
Its almost as if the #Tories have realised that there next-to-useless placeman, local MP David Morris will not hang onto his seat if his (fanciful) claims to be supporting Morecambe are not made real (this time).

Over the next few days there are going to be a lot of people claiming they played a pivotal role in #EdenProjectNorth coming to #Morecambe, so I want to record that none of this would have happened without one man: Ian Hughes.
Ian developed over a decade ago (on his own time) a comprehensive feasibility study for bringing Eden to Morecambe... he was generally ignored as a fantasist, until we (at the University) worked with him to engage Eden and get the project under way.
We should salute Ian!

An announcement confirming the £50m government cash injection needed to make Morecambe’s #EdenProjectNorth a reality was made at 10.30pm yesterday, Wednesday.
The news means work can now begin on the £125m development on #Morecambe promenade.

As I expected (last night) #EdenProjectNorth in #Morecambe has (finally) secure the £50m it needs to break ground (for the Govt.'s #LevellingUpFund.its so great to see this amazing project clear the final hurdle to get building!
For locals this is the final vindication for Ian Hughes' vision & if David Morris tries to take any credit for this ignore him... he had noting material to do with the success of this project whatsoever!
