The abandoned Edendork Dance Hall, before it was demolished last year.
Edendork Dance Hall opened in 1963 as Malachy’s Parochial Hall and quickly became a major social venue in mid-Tyrone. Crowds travelled from nearby towns, and by the late 1960s it was a regular stop on the showband circuit.
Popularity declined in the following decades, and the hall eventually slipped into disuse and disrepair.

Edendork Dance Hall, County Tyrone. Built in 1963, it was once a bustling venue on the Irish showband circuit during the 1960s and 1980s.
When the showband era came to an end in the mid-1980s, dance halls like this began to close down.
Sadly the hall was demolished in 2024
This week is Ireland #NationalHeritageWeek, and I will be sharing photos and stories from my adventures exploring the country’s disappearing heritage.
