@okohll @abigaildombey.bsky.social Octopus kindly capped the pipe and disconnected my meter for free though is not my retail energy supplier. Then we had an interesting dance working out who owned* the meter to take it away - quite the reverse of shirking responsibility!
*SGN (Southern Gas Networks) owns it, it turns out, and came to take it away. #SGN, #Octopus and #Ecotricity get about 9/10 for their joint handling of the process!

But #Ecotricity founder #DaleVince dismisses Bad Enoch's fantasy. He says that the UK was "built on slavery, on racism, on colonialism, on Empire. We abused the rest of the world to be a rich country"
Dale Vince is of course entirely right. So his comments should be commonplace and unworthy of sharing.
But the UK has never de-imperialised. So Dale is on his own. 😡

Just had to call #Ecotricity and ask why they've randomly increased my direct debit by £50/month, again. There was a lot of waffle and very little explanation.
They used to be so ethical and good, but they have got SO shady the last few years... every time they change my billing amount it's because they've ridiculously overestimated my usage again, kinda feels like they're just using me as a handy overdraft facility.
Multiply this behaviour by their customer base and it must add up to quite a tasty credit balance sitting in their bank every month.

Are you an EDF energy customer? No, allow me to widen that net: Have you seen any of EDF energy’s mid-late 2024 advertisement campaign?
If so you might be forgiven for thinking they’re changing their ways and looking to spearhead a revolution in renewables.
I decided to dig a little deeper to find out if there was anything more sinister lurking behind their self-aggrandising, ‘biggest-ever’ ad campaign.
Spoiler alert: The truth is something quite different to what the commercials may well have had you believe.

However, I do have a question for
The Green Web Foundation (via @mrchrisadams (Apologies Chris, you’re the only contact for The Green Web Foundation I have found in the Fediverse!)):Included in the Green Web Foundation results are a lot of companies who buy Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). I suspect most of these companies don’t even realise that REC trading can be more #greenwashing than good.
For example Cloudflare (whose intentions I’m not questioning, but as the world’s biggest CDN service I’m using as example) are marked as using green energy in The Green Web Foundation directory but actually they buy RECs rather than using power from providers who create green energy.
Here is the #Cloudflare info on how they try to not only cover their current emissions but all emissions since their inception: https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-committed-to-building-a-greener-internet/ …They do this by buying these RECs (known as Renewable Energy Guarantuee of Origin certificates (REGOs) in the UK).
Make Hay #GreenHosting are a smaller hosting provider in the UK who get their energy from a supplier who actually create renewable energy, not just trade certificates. There is a big difference as explained by UK energy supplier #Ecotricity here: https://www.ecotricity.co.uk/our-green-energy/greenwashing
So my question to the foundation, Chris, is will it look to highlight the difference in the directory for those providers who actually use renewable energy and those who simply trade in RECs?
If not I fear that before long the directory will be full up of listings of hosting providers who return ‘green’ results, but most of whom will not actually be powered by renewable energy at all.

So glad I took the decision, on #ethical grounds to move to #Ecotricity as my #EnergyCompany, after being moved to #ShellEnergy when my previous supplier #PurePlanet went into adminstration in Sep 2021.

I was moved to #ShellEnergy when my previous supplier, #PurePlanet, went into administration in autumn 2021.
They've always been OK for me, but I resented paying out to a company that is part of a conglomorate that drives #ClimateChange with their #FossilFuels and #Oil, and makes vast #Profits too.
I've just moved to #Ecotricity, and have changed my bank to a more #EcoFriendly one, #TriodosBank.

Stopped at 2 Macdonald's where only 1 #InstaVolt working and people ahead of us saying 1 hour wait.
2 #Osprey not working. 1 #GeniePoint not working. 2 #Swarco wouldn't accept our contact less payment. Now #Podpoint at #Lidl not working.
We ignored 3 #Ecotricity points as they haven't worked for months.
Only 5 miles range left, 18 miles to Bangor Osprey charger. -
