Im Wien Museum ist gerade die Ausstellung Eisenbeton. Anatomie einer Metropole zu sehen. Thema sind Stahlbeton- oder Eisenbeton-Skelettbauten1 der frühen Wiener Moderne. Am vorletzten Sonntag haben Ana und ich die Ausstellung besucht. Ich habe den Besuch mit dem Material, das ich online dazu gefunden habe (u.a. einem Podcast mit den Ausstellungsmacher:innen, Karr, 2025) und mit dem ausgezeichneten, umfassenden Ausstellungskatalog nachbereitet (Kapfinger, 2025a). Mich interessiert, wie die Ausstellung vor dem Hintergrund der Theorien des sozialen Metabolismus zu verstehen ist, mit denen ich mich seit einiger Zeit beschäftige. Kann man – und wie kann man – eine Verbindung zwischen dem lokalen Prozess des Durchbruchs des Eisenbeton-Baus in Wien und dem globalen Übergang vom agrarischen zum fossil-industriellen Metabolismus herstellen?
