Switzerland’s parliament has approved a law allowing voters to sign petitions and referendums digitally. The Foundation for Direct Democracy and the @digiges underline that the digital system must be secure, transparent, and accessible, with #opensource code and decentralized data handling.
They also argue that digital signatures can make direct #democracy more inclusive and safer, especially for those who cannot sign on paper. The trial must be implemented nationwide and in line with the law’s principles.
The responsibility now falls to the Federal Chancellery to ensure the #ecollecting trial meets these standards, starting as soon as possible to benefit those with #disability

Beide Räte haben heute der Revision des Bundesgesetzes über die politischen Rechte (BPR) in den Schlussabstimmungen zugestimmt.
Die Stiftung für direkte Demokratie und die Digitale Gesellschaft begrüssen den Entscheid – und fordern eine sichere, dezentrale und barrierefreie Umsetzung.

Beim #ECollecting Hackathon haben meine Kolleg*innen von der @epfl und ich uns dem Team um den Vorschlag der #BFH anschliessed dürfen.
Als einziges Team durften wir ein Protokoll präsentieren, welches das #Stimmgeheimnis wahrt und ein vollständig anonymes Unterschreiben online ermöglicht.
Unterschriften auf Papier bleiben dabei genauso möglich, wobei aber elegant Doppelunterschriften durch das Protokoll ausgeschlossen werden. #OfflineLeben

Instructive and inspiring pangs of shame from anyone writing (AI-)sloppy HTML code, or putting inaccessible Web components and poorly designed layouts into the public domain. Often the correct description of buttons, hierarchy of form elements, fundamental questions are ignored. Desktop software is better (mostly), but still fails at the boundary of un-OCR'ed scans and many edge cases.
