In May the European Union’s Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reported that in 2024, the most recent year for which it has compiled figures, there were some 100 000 cases of gonorrhoea in Europe, more than three times as many as in 2015. Cases of syphilis more than doubled, to around 46 000.

Unsichtbare Gefahr: Wie die Zahl der Hitzetoten berechnet wird
Auch diese Woche stehen wieder Temperaturen über 30 Grad bevor. Die neuerliche, wenn auch schwächere #Hitzewelle erreicht zu Beginn der Woche mit stellenweise bis zu 34 Grad ihren Höhepunkt. Temperaturen wie diese können für Körper und Psyche sehr belastend sein, werden aber häufig unterschätzt. Fachleute sprechen daher bei Hitze von einer unsichtbaren Gefahr, auch die tatsächliche Zahl der Hitzetoten kann nur geschätzt werden.
Ende Juni hatte die Hitzewelle laut Daten des von der EU-Gesundheitsbehörde #ECDC und der #Weltgesundheitsorganisation (#WHO) unterstützten Netzwerks #EuroMOMO in Westeuropa zu mehr als 10.000 zusätzlichen Todesfällen geführt.
