Small, iconic, and endangered, California least terns return every year to Alameda. In the early 1970s, the NAS Alameda base commander’s wife noticed and protected about 10 pairs of birds. Quick ride this Sunday afternoon.
I've spent the last 3 days dealing with some pretty challenging issues. Sunday started off sunny in my part of the #EastBay but later in the day the clouds started rolling in. By about 4 p.m. the clouds were really rolling in and I knew that daylight would be fading soon so I grabbed the #eBike and headed for a short loop often I ride which goes through #DiabloFoothills park and #BorgesRanch.
I absolutely love the shades of #green we get this time of year in this part of California! It's a little hard to see in this photo, but the oak trees are getting new growth which has its own shade of green, distinct from the grass and the old oak leaves.

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against a wind farm at Altamont Pass after dozens of golden eagles were killed every year by wind turbines. The wind farm is now required to install a bird detection system to stop the turbine blades whenever a golden eagle gets too close.

I don't know if the #turtle s were always at this area, or only after 3 month of heavy rain. I finally remembered to take my digital camera with a 10x zoom and snap some pictures.
This lovely man-made lake is on the edge of #castrovalley and #sanleandro and worth a visit. Free street parking can be a pain during busy times.

I spent a lot of time thinking about why I went into civil and environmental engineering and what sorts of engineering work I find enjoyable.
I thought about what I'm doing now and how far away it is what what I enjoy.
The sky was blue and the grass is that wonderful shade of green we see in the California spring.
