  2. About 3 hrs to walk a mile and a half. 0.5 mph. Good pace for birding. Not so good for hiking.

Couldn’t see much (because I’m weak on fieldmarks). Merlin found all of these for me.

  3. Best/Worst Decision
I signed up to get "rare bird alerts" for my county and now I have no idea what to do with myself. I'd like to see them all, but just getting to all the locations is a challenge. And which one is rarer? Should I try to see the Dunlin? The Mississippi Kite? I've never seen either. Is one more likely to still be here tomorrow? Mornings or afternoons? GAH!

  4. 9th May 26 was Endemic Bird day & also Himalayan Bird Count Day

Normally our group would have gone crazy - with birding events in 3 or 4 locations. This year subdued - people on assignment & in different locations. So took the opportunity to slow walk through a village forest

  9. Did some birding today! My wife and I went to a castle next to the river which has a nice park. Beautiful day!

Saw a bunch of birds: Swan, European Starling, Common Swift, Eurasian Moorhen, Great Cormorant, Egyptian Goose, Great Egret, and others

I had previously heard a European Starling but never seen one even though they're super common. It was really cool to see them show off their iridescent colors when sitting under the sun

Just submitted my checklist to #eBird

  10. Possibly the 3 best photos I've ever taken 📸

    May, 2010 at a Zoo in Argentina. A beautiful Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle

I took these with a Lumix point and shoot, while being shoved by a crowd, zooming in and with my arm up. I was stunned when I saw how great these pictures turned out 🦅

I would love to upload these to #eBird so they can live on the Macaulay Library, but since this was at a presentation at a zoo and not a wild eagle, I think I can't

Anyways, I hope you enjoy them

  11. Watched this cute little guy while taking a break in the balcony 💕

Not sure if it's a Marsh Tit or a Great Tit, because I've seen that Great Tit adults can look grey like this, without yellow, so I'm not sure here

Merlin Bird ID says it could be both

    Anybody got any ideas?

  16. Tepid kickoff to my #eBird logging season today with two magpies, five crows, and a nuthatch.

  17. I love seeing people's #eBird profiles, especially if they have some kind of bio about them

I love seeing all the locations they birded at and their checklists

I don't know, but there's something so wholesome about a platform where people just report the birds they see🥰

I'm not as active as other people but I've been really enjoying #birding since starting last year

I hope at some point to be able to get a decent camera and lens to take thousands of bird photos and contribute them to ebird🦆

  18. Anyone using eBird get their February eBird recap?

Not sure why, but Team eBird says I contributed 0 photos in February, while my complete checklists show I contributed over a dozen.

  19. Walk About

After two cold months indoors, a mild March morning was all it took to grab the camera and head out for my first walk in weeks.

  22. Testing out my monocle and honestly the most longlasting memorable observation was the cianopica (Azure-winged magpie)!

Oh, and of course, the Eurasian griffon vulture!

  23. Starting tomorrow is the 4 day Annual Global Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). 1000's of birders, worldwide, will go out & bird.

I & people I work with have been participating for many years, this year too some events are planned. Sharing a picture of Kalij Pheasants, & also the promo poster.

  29. Good to know.

In the past, I've always normalized my eBird audio. And plan to continue.

"The Macaulay Library also now automatically normalizes audio on new uploads for greater consistency.

Your original sound files remain unchanged—only the online playback might sound different."

BTW Ptasiarze: macie jakieś metody na reset napotkanych gatunków wraz z nowym rokiem, czy po prostu nie przejmujecie się statystyką roczną i kontynuujecie uzupełnianie brakujących liferów?

  35. My #eBird data. Maps showing my observations of a selection of species with a colour in their common name. The maps inevitably say more about where I have compiled bird lists in the last couple of years than they do about distribution of the birds.

  37. The #eBird app told me ideally I should submit all unsubmitted reports by Sunday because they're updating taxonomy and conflicts could occur. This…is not compatible with my workflow! (She said from under a digital pile of unsubmitted reports.) 😬

:sapsucker: (In case your workflow is different: after the Sapsucker Drag King incident, I stopped submitting my reports in the field. I sort all my photos first to double-check my IDs. That is the rationale for the pile. Which is large.)
