  4. Heard of EAT-Lancet?
#EATLancet prescribes very low dairy, meat and fish, but not strictly vegetarian or vegan. Check it out, it might be something your steak-loving neighbor can adopt. eatforum.org/eat-lancet-commis

#Rockström is in the commission, too and made sure that planetary boundaries are kept.

New paper: Li et al 2024, "Reducing climate change impacts from the global food system through diet shifts" nature.com/articles/s41558-024

"The present global annual dietary emissions would fall by 17% with the worldwide adoption of the EAT-Lancet planetary health diet, primarily attributed to shifts from red meat to legumes and nuts as principal protein sources. More than half (56.9%) of the global population, which is presently overconsuming, would save 32.4% of global emissions through diet shifts, offsetting the 15.4% increase in global emissions from presently underconsuming populations moving towards healthier diets."

  5. How do climate change, public health, and animal welfare interact in food system shifts?

More than pleased to have worked with talented colleagues on just-published paper discussing how various shifts can affect One Health and (from my standpoint) specifically animal welfare.

We have a boat - it is us, We, the People.

When it comes to the #ClimateEmergency - It is not hopeless & we, the people are not helpless! If we take individual action now - without asking anyone! theguardian.com/commentisfree/

IMO, it’s up to us – WE,THE PEOPLE, to save planet Earth by becoming #EcoConciousConsumers thinkhousehq.com/features/clim who actively mitigate global warming by our daily choices of: who we donate to, vote for, invest/divest/bank in; what we buy, eat, drive/pedal; to switch from gas to electric; to reduce, reuse, recycle; & consume less. news.climate.columbia.edu/2018

In the film: “Wake Up, Freak Out – then Get a Grip” youtube.com/watch?v=VnyLIRCPaj tells us that “preventing run-away Global Warming is the single most important task in all of human history - and it is up to us to do it. If we don’t then everything else we have achieved in our lives will become meaningless”!

The United nation says: “Everyone can help limit climate change. From the way we travel, to the electricity we use, the food we eat, and the things we buy, we can make a difference.” un.org/en/actnow/ten-actions

Greta Thunberg says - “Politicians are not coming to the rescue of planet Earth” newstatesman.com/environment/2 & “Saving the world is voluntary…we need billions of #climate activists” theguardian.com/environment/20

Robert Reich @rbreich Says “A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, the health care we can access and, now, the information we receive…” youtube.com/watch?v=Y_sjfchNsi But, these Oligarchs got rich by convincing us to buy products that we don’t actually need & that are harmful to our planet. So, stop buying those products!

William Stanley Jevons said: “Value is created by the consumer, not the producer… the consumer is the ‘ultimate regulator of demand’” - theatlantic.com/business/archi So people - stop demanding!

DR. SAILESH RAO position paper climatehealers.org/the-science says: “...animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change, responsible for at least 87% of annual GHGs.”

Maybe we should believe them & #EatPlantbased or #EatVegan or #EATLancet!

  7. @MoiraEve

The fashion industry may be the second worst polluter, but many say factory farming is the leading cause of climate change.

climatehealers.org/the-science Says that “AAg is the Leading Cause of Climate Change”

  9. “We cannot address climate change without moving away from fossil fuels. ‘Equally’, we cannot reach our climate targets without tackling global food production. Even if we stopped emissions from fossil fuels right now, emissions from food production alone would take us well beyond the carbon budget for 1.5°C, and leave little room to reach our 2°C target.” ourworldindata.org/food-emissi

Your post - "World food costs have hit a record high and are destabilising societies around the globe.
What can be done to curb global food price rises?" is a great reminder of this crisis.

    see: dailytelegraph.com.au/news/wor

This is also a good time to remind ourselves that - “We cannot address climate change without moving away from fossil fuels.

  13. @breadandcircuses

IMHO the blindingly obvious truth is that earth cannot support 70B+ farmed animals & we can end Animal Ag by Eating Plant Based or Eating Vegan or choosing the EAT Lancet global diet!

Being vegan is as good for humans’ health as it is for animal welfare. There is no nutritional need for humans to eat any animal product; all our dietary needs, even as infants and children, are best supplied by a meatless diet.. bing.com/search?q=Being+Vegan%
