  1. The idea that you "grow out" of EDM/Rave culture is a myth. 🚫

You don't grow out of it, you just stop settling for low-bitrate streams and $10 earbuds.

For me, the rave has shifted from the warehouse floor to a high-fidelity local setup. It's about digital sovereignty, owning your library, bypassing the algorithms, and hearing every layer of a complex synth through a proper DAC and good headphones.

Whether you’re at the back of the crowd by the soundboard with high-end earplugs or at your desk with a custom Easy Effects setup. If the BPM still hits, you belong there.

Music is frequencies. Frequencies are math. And math doesn't have an expiration date.

  6. @Merri

Tässä muuten varsin mainio ohje Easy Effectsin säätämiseksi jytäkämmän kuuloisen äänentoiston aikaansaamiseksi: wwmm.github.io/easyeffects/gui

Ohjeessa puhutaan läppärin kaiuttimista, mutta arvoja sopivasti muuntelemalla tuo soveltuu muihinkin bassorajoitteisiin äänentoistolaitteisiin. Etenkin tuo Multiband Compressor -osio on sellainen, jota en olisi itse keksinyt.

  7. sound wasn't being passed through with Steam Remote Play, the solution was to exclude the game from Easy Effects (i use it for an equalizer that affects every game/software capable of producing sound; and microphone noise suppression)

  9. @carl

Was #EasyEffects just assimilated into the #KDE Ecosystem?

I just got the upgrade with the Qt switch and it is really nice!

Designwise I am kinda in between KDE and GNOME, big fan of Brise and the work-in-progress icons though

  10. It feels like the Qt rewrite of #EasyEffects just made it ten times more flakey

  11. Updated to #NixOS 25.11 and #Plasma 6.5. All issues fixed, and I love Plasma's improvements. #EasyEffects got updated to version 8 in the process, it's quite a big improvement too: now we got a built-in tray icon and a better integration to #KDE due to the rewriting of the interface in Qt/QML/Kirigami instead of GTK4. All good!

  12. #EasyEffects now ships with qt (Breeze by default)

I do get why they are moving, working with Qt is just very nice. I do miss the beatifull GTK UI though

    #Linux

  13. Sieht interessant aus, nutzt native #PipeWire-Filter.

  14. CW: CW Debian 13

  15. A LOVELY thing about #Linux is #EasyEffects for #PipeWire. As a music addict I always have an application playing music, but I watch a lot of YouTube and they are both competing for my ears.
The following effects chain helps with that: Autogain -> Limiter.
Then just set the volume of the music player low enough that it can comfortably play in the background to the video, and it'll automatically turn up when the video stops or gets quiet. Like a pseudo ducker.

  16. I tried to find the problem, but no luck. Other problem is that it doesn't show anything in the journal or #systemd systemctl status.

I thought that #EasyEffects was the culprit, but no, I uninstalled it and the problem persists.

  17. I am trying to make Easyeffects work on all my audio sinks on Linux but with no success. Only the Easyeffects sink has the effects applied, this makes the app useless for me. I need multiple sinks, not only one.

  18. Update on the #ThinkPad T480 speakers. I've just found this repo with a few IRS files designed for use with #EasyEffects on Linux. Happily, they also work work #JamesDSP.

    github.com/shuhaowu/linux-thin

Importing into JamesDSP is easy. Copy the relevant .irs file to ~/.config/jamesdsp/irs/, go to the Convolver tab, select the file and click Enable convolver.

The speakers are still bad, trust me. But now they almost feel like they're responding to sub-120Hz frequencies, and that they're playing through a slightly more roomy tin can.

  19. #easyeffects #linux #linuxaudio do you think you could have a volume slider or some mechanism when switching output interfaces to protect against instant 100% full volume headphones?

RIP my ears figuring out how to switch audio output.

At least with #pulseaudio or #pavucontrol there's a slider right there and you can quickly turn it down if you are fast enough instead of ripping them off your face.

Im fortunate enough to have had the open back kind, I can imagine closed would be even more crazy. Que Darth Vader from Back to the Future.

  20. Apply Real-Time Effect to Audio on Ubuntu with Easy Effects

Many moons ago I covered a neat audio tool called PulseEffects, which made it easy to modify the sound output of any app on a global or per-app basis. As you may infer from the name, PulseEffects was built around and designed for PulseAudio. Most major Linux distributions have switched from PulseAudio to PipeWire for their audio handling. Enter Easy Effects, a successor to PulseEffects that sports a modern GTK4 interface, and an expanded set of features that enable to function as a powerful audio effects processor for PipeWire applications. It offers an equalizer, limiter, and compressor (among others) and :sys_more_orange:

  21. Just noticed a downside: it often uses 40-50% of my CPU when all the effects are active. I might tweak effects to see if I can find some sound-CPU usage balance

  22. I installed EasyEffects on Fedora today, added several effects and tweaked them a bit just based on my tastes while listening to streaming music through Firefox.

I wish I'd done this sooner. My music already sounds better.
