I still remember watching the TV coverage of the sheriff's beating and shooting at the protesters along Whittier Blvd. I still remember my mom and grandma screaming when Ruben Salazar was killed. He was simply doing his job as a reporter.

My cousins joined in the march that afternoon. They still lived in Boyle Heights.
