Yesterday, I finally took the time to mount my new bird feeder atop the post in the middle of the yard. I shored up the post with some short cedar pieces I picked up from Lowe’s ages ago. Funny thing—they’ve been sitting in the backyard shed for years, just waiting for me to get around to it. Kind of like the computer behind me, close enough to touch, with a new fan ready to be installed. I procrastinate sometimes.
Truth is, I take my leisure time more seriously than I used to. My philosophy? If you own a recliner, you’d better use it—otherwise, it’s just going to waste. That’s an important truth, straight from the Drama Llama.

It must have leapt there from a nearby tree, perhaps drawn by the warmth of the roof. The chilly morning air made it the perfect spot to soak up some heat.

Squirrels will be squirrels, bad squirrel, bad squirrel 🎶. That is what I call them when speaking to Ben and Charlie, they are bad squirrels. This eastern gray squirrel, treed by Ben and Charlie, undoubtedly had been raiding one of my bird feeders. No worries, the squirrel eventually escaped the backyard safely.

I was sitting around on the deck in the backyard enjoying a weekday breakfast. On a sunny day, the backyard is a great place to sit and get some morning sunlight on my skin1 while listening to the birds singing from the trees in the woods. The air was cool. After watching and photographing the antics of the White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis, I returned to Trolley Track Trail and headed west.
I noticed that the further I walked from the Pipeline trail the less I heard bird song. I paused when I arrived at Founders' Walk. Except for the wind in the trees, it was silent. I would have sat at the bench and relaxed a bit but I was still on a hunt for warblers.
