There is "truth" in this article about how difficult & competitive it can be to get a parking spot in a Costco parking lot.
As far as #EastCoCoCounty is concerned, the parking lots in Concord & Brentwood are very bad which is why I only shop at the Pittsburg location & get there at least 1/2 hour before they open to get a parking spot close to the entrance & FWIW the reason I (& I assume others) covert spots close to the entrance is to make leaving the lot easier & less time consuming. 🤷♂️

#Education . . .
I just heard the other day that the public elementary schools in #EastCoCoCounty opened for new school year yesterday, 7/28/2026 and, I just checked, & the school year ends on 6/10/2027.
That makes a very long school year.
As I recall, when I was in school, from elementary to college, the new school year didn't start until mid/late September.
Do the students learn any more &/or do any better on achievement tests with the longer period of instruction? I doubt it. 🤷♂️

I stop by my local Safeway in #EastCoCoCounty regularly & it doesn't seem to have the empty shelf problem your does.
The problem that I often face is that they do NOT have a sale item that I want in stock but the shelves are still well stocked.
I guess they're hoping people will buy something else if the sale items are not there but I usually only go to Safeway specifically to buy things that are on sale & I have no problem leaving empty handed.
Today, I went there to buy some corn for 10 cents/ear which they had but they didn't have any prepacked salmon at $8.99/lb, any 3# tubs of potato salad or any 8 pc dark meat fried chicken for $6.99 that I wanted to buy.
So, I just left with 4 ears of corn for 40 cents & headed to FoodMax where I bought a 2 bags full of food, including 2 salmon fillets at $8.99/@ , for at total of $80.

It's been incredibly windy in #EastCoCoCounty this afternoon Sun 5/17 apparently due to a:
. . . strong **low-pressure system** moving through the Great Basin (the desert region to the east), leaving a powerful ridge of **high pressure** building right in its wake over Northern California. Air naturally rushes from areas of high pressure to low pressure. Because that pressure difference (or gradient) is so steep right now, it is generating fierce, fast-moving winds across the state.
As these winds turn more northerly and northeasterly, they are creating a "down-sloping" effect. Air is being forced down the sides of the North, East, and South Bay mountains. As that air sinks, it compresses, speeds up, and dries out."
The winds are coming from the north now & the winds are not expected to die off until around midday tomorrow morning Mon 5/18.

I'm glad to hear they'll be reopening a #BedBathAndBeyond store in Walnut Creek (probably where the Container Store is located now.
The one that use to be located just minutes away from me in #EastCoCoCounty was my go-to place for housewares.

#Weather . . .
It's extremely windy here in #EastCoCoCounty today. Must be the front in advance of this weekend's predicted rain.
Glad that I bought heavier additional water bags to weight down the new 10x10 canopy that I bought that was destroyed by previous winds.
I've now got 2 water bags (10 & 25L) for a total of about 77# on each leg of the canopy holding it down.
I also lowered the canopy when not in use (as recommended by #ChatGPT) which reduces the canopy's profile & makes it less likely for wind to get under it.
This seems to be working to preserve the canopy too.

I was up but didn't feel a thing 80 miles away here in #EastCoCoCounty -- east of Mt. Diablo.

I prepared for it because the #WeatherPeople made such a big deal about it but the storm that blew into the #SFBA last night hasbeen a non-event in #EastCoCoCounty; very little rain &/or wind around here so far. 🤷♂️

#Comcast outage started in my area in #EastCoCoCounty about 2 hrs ago while I feel asleep in front of my #TV. set
Currently watching a #DVD. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to watch anything on the TV.
A good reason to have a separate non-Comcast mobile service to access the Net & to stream media with & to buy DVDs to watch as a back up.
Can also use my phone as a #hotspot if Comcast is still down when I get up later

@nwchapman Didn't feel the #earthquake in #EastCoCoCounty today & anyone who says they felt it in #Fremont was dreaming.🤦♂️
Any 4.0 earthquake is nothing to worry about.
You'll feel it if you're near it but it will NOT cause any damage, except maybe at the epicenter where something might get knocked down.
But, if you moved from somewhere else to live in the SFBA, get over it. 🤷♂️
I'm born & raised here & have lived thru all of the "big" quakes & nothing below 5.0 is even worth commenting about. 🙄
