#earthwindandfireday — Public Fediverse posts

Every year I put together a Funk Playlsit for #EarthWindAndFireDay but this year I decided what better way to celebrate the day than with some live performances from the godfathers of #funk. You can listen to a MegaMix of the annual playlists here (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe3kSl6nSbfs&si=4QLR2xdr0RDXQjuT)

And now the reason for the #EarthWindAndFireDay season: Here’s Earth Wind and Fire LIVE in Japan in 1979 (https://youtu.be/alROoSD0BX4?is=4VsvdyVLsH5dR8L7)

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 by Prince. You can watch their induction here (https://youtu.be/EbS2dIADcsg?is=StnvmllKsXIVnDMb) & their performance here (https://youtu.be/k4EKAG8lASU?is=Zzs0B6oEbaNwTAOf)

This performance features the P Funk Mothership AKA The Mothership AKA The Holy Mothership which is a space vehicle model belonging to Dr. Funkenstein AKA the honorable George Clinton. Originally just a conceptual element of their music it became a physical prop that was used in Parliament-Funkadelic live concerts from the 1970s into the 1990s. As of 2021 a replica resides in the Oakland Museum of California

First up we have Parliament Funkadelic live from The Summit in Houston, Texas in 1976 (https://youtu.be/r5aHD5ruSZ0?is=pp8KK86lCMqJWv8w) Sorry about the video quality. The audio and, of course, The vibes remain pretty immaculate to make up for it

🎶💃 Do you remember the 21st night of September?
🎸 Earth, Wind & Fire remembered it. Memaw remembered your Monday commute. 💅🌧️🚗💨
Southcentral is bringing the showers, wet roads and gray skies today, so before you roll, tap those nails for the road 411. And yes, there’s a little September waiting for you at the end. 🎶✨

“September” by Earth, Wind and Fire is NOT a song with a misunderstood meaning. I just figured that I couldn’t in good conscience let anyone get through #EarthWindAndFireDay without hearing this masterpiece of a song at least once so.. enjoy! If you want more checkout my annual “Earth, Wind, Fire and Funk” playlists from 2022 (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Zslnc5XTfs9s1QTlghCMfmErVwe_7jF&si=gdccH5IeAabOKdvP), 2023 (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Zslnc5XTfuDJduK_k9GQynbMrAwxTmI&si=n-6EXKQ_15ykCXuF) and 2024 (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Zslnc5XTftmFy5CRuVyylCrOlFp5Nyv&si=d52oJA1P4wxEClDW)

And finally: a recent early morning medley of Earth, Wind and Fire’s biggest hits including the #EarthWindAndFireDay anthem: September (https://youtu.be/BHR887-1Wrg?si=8n74izY3MgHDcq4i)- Happy (early) Earth Wind and Day, y’all!

It just wouldn’t be an #EarthWindAndFireDay playlist without The Godfather of Soul James Brown. Here’s “Soul Power” (https://youtu.be/4N-NrucQcB8?si=ZXm1qbRyVlht1ITs) live from the 3 day “Zaire ‘74” festival to promote “The Rumble in the Jungle” fight between Muhammad Ali & George Foreman. his full set can be seen here (https://youtu.be/XMXsZYoVsMA?si=XN_jysKZZOgpmJmo)

You can’t celebrate #EarthWindANdFireDay without The Queen of Funk Chaka Khan. Here she’s joined by the Metropol Orchestra of The Netherlands for a medley of some of her biggest hits in 2010 (https://youtu.be/RRhY8A-OAgc?si=5WRhIkxrX8E4eYJ-) Unfortunately, due to being an accidental victim of her own greatness Chaka Kahn kind of gets lost in the sea of her own legacy BUT in 2023 she was at least finally inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (https://youtu.be/TvLYZR6HXc8?si=q4n0o89yfOehUjDm)
#RetroView #ChakaKahn

Next we have some live concert footage of Earth Wind and Fire from the late 1970s (https://youtu.be/Scom4y-ND3M?si=QN1AHWjTXfTcZ1lm)- Get ready to (continue to) boogie!
