One of the most common reasons people use to justify eating animal products is taste. Before I was #vegan, I also used to enjoy the taste of animal products too. However, pleasure is not a moral justifier for causing harm to someone else.
The reality is, vegans don’t go vegan because they stop enjoying the taste of animal products, they go vegan because they realise that the lives of #animals are more important than their tastebuds.

Isn’t it strange that we can’t bare to look at something something that we claim is moral, acceptable and even natural?
We turn away from animal suffering, the suffering that we pay for, because it pains us to watch someone else suffer. Yet we pay for, perpetuate and defend the very industry that we’re so upset and distressed by.

Can we really call ourselves animal lovers while funding industries that cause more animal suffering, harm, and death than any other?
If we spent time with the animals we pay to have exploited and slaughtered, we’d realise they too have complex emotions, personalities, and a desire to live free from suffering.

The idea that you can mutilate, exploit and slaughter animals, and yet still claim that you love them, is just utterly and clearly absurd. If you love someone then exploiting, harming and killing them is the last thing you would do.

Even recently, headlines proclaimed that consuming dairy is linked to a reduced risk of bowel cancer. In reality, the study showed that calcium is linked to a reduced risk of bowel cancer, with plant-based sources of calcium also being shown to be protective. The study also again reaffirmed that red and processed meat are associated with an increased risk in bowel cancer.
Put simply, consuming dairy is weird, immoral and completely unnecessary.

We need to stop conflating nutrients with animal products.
The idea that we need to consume breast milk from an entirely different species is clearly completely illogical. The truth is, we need calcium, which we can get without having to engage in interspecies breastfeeding.
However, the idea that we should steal the milk meant for someone else’s child still sadly persists.
