The emission reductions mostly occurred in the 445–500, 500–540, and 615–650 nm spectral ranges---corresponding to peak emissions from LED billboard screens--- and in the 585–595 nm range, associated with metal halide floodlights used for facades and billboards. Our study identifies these sources as major contributors to urban light pollution.”

We could emulate what the #WWF initiated with #EarthHour or #HoraDelPlaneta in 2007.* People jointly turn off the lights.

When many people(s) join in a visible action, it can become a beacon of hope.
Due to the fact, that #VisionImpairments impacts only a fraction of the population and, as @hspmauli, pointed out today, voluntary "temperance/abstinence is always the problem,"..

"Bangkok Metropolitan Administration & its public & private sector networks managed to save 24.65MW of #electricity, by reducing unnecessary lighting & power #consumption btw 8.30pm & 9.30pm Saturday nite, in observation of the “60+ Earth Hour 2024”. However, e electricity saved this year in Bangkok was less than 2023, when 36MW were saved, reducing CO² #emissions by 5.2 tonnes"

We observed Earth Hour by playing cards by candlelight with the neighbors.

Considering I'd run the oven all afternoon to prepare dinner, it was more of symbolic gesture than anything else. But it was fun to play cards in the semi-darkness.
