As I understand, the muni (silent sage) ideal of having no views ultimately means having no perceptions: not distinguishing between objects, or between subjects and objects, just experiencing raw sensation. Going from there to objectless awareness means also closing the 'sense doors', like consciously falling asleep.

Perhaps the central conflict/debate between the early Buddhist poetry and later prose suttas is whether liberation requires being a silent and solitary hermit, or whether it requires judging and performing right, skilful, virtuous, etc (kusala, sīla, puñña, etc) behaviour within society.
