Has anyone else been watching the Big Bear Eagle cam? If so, then you saw Sandy leave the nest today at 84 days old. It is such a treat year after year to watch the eaglets from hatchlings to fledge, or in Sandy's case today, FLUDGE, when her little brother accidentally knocked her off the limb. But she recovered and flew away. Luna, who was born one day later, will be gone any minute, and the nest will be empty until next winter or spring when the Big Bear eagles, Jackie and Shadow, welcome new chicks, if we are all so fortunate. Jackie finally lets Shadow takeover for a while. Shadow usually does the day shift while Jackie takes night. They clearly have a heightened awareness of what seems like impending hatching. They are checking on & rolling the eggs a lot more frequently & Shadow has been hanging around very close by. Jackie has occasionally called to him & he’s there in a second or two.

The eaglet fuzzball is getting bigger! If you squint reeeeaaallly hard you can see the little yellow beak and a black eye.
I helpfully added an arrow. 🤣
Sorry for the quality - the "real" camera I bought was a total waste of a LOT of money, so all I have is my phone and the zoom can be wonky at this distance.
Plus, eaglets don't pose well. 😉
