Congratulations to Thousand Oaks’ newest Eagle Scout, Jacob Dean!
Today’s Court of Honor ceremony was a family affair, with older brother Nick administering the Eagle Pledge and Jacob pinning mentor badges on his parents Rachelle and Randy (shown here hugging his son). Randy and Nick are also Eagle Scouts, as were others in attendance at Holy Trinity Lutheran.
Jacob received a US and California flags flown over the respective Capitols from US Sen. Alex Padilla and Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin. And it was an honor for me to present Jacob with a Certificate of Achievement from the city.

#BoyScouts (or just Scouts now, I guess) have never been a perfect organization, but speaking as an #EagleScout I've got to say that they instilled many values I pride myself in today.
"A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."
Our military has divorced itself from those values of late.
