  1. BX run this morning. Spotted on the transient ramp @ DMAFB: Ospreys from ? & boneyard-bound Eagles from Oregon ANG. #eaglebot

  2. The touches of orange on my watch o' the day remind me of the oranges on a unit patch I once proudly wore. #BigSeiko #SierraHotel #EagleBot

  3. Aerobraking is an effective way of slowing the F-15 Eagle after landing, but you have to watch your pitch or you'll scrape the tailcones. In this case, in front of witnesses. #EagleBot #SierraHotel

  4. Another run to Davis-Monthan AFB today ... had to get the new-style ID card. Saw the last three F-15Cs from the Massachusetts ANG parked under the transient shelters. Next stop, the Boneyard. #EagleBot militaryspot.com/news/farewell

  5. Is there a bottom with Trump and his followers? No, there is no bottom. Speaking of taking a shit in a fighter cockpit, I know of exactly one case where someone did that (have heard of several, but *know* of just one): an F-15 squadron-mate did it during an ocean crossing (Europe to the USA) between turns on the tanker. Used the cardboard box the in-flight lunch came in. #EagleBot #FuckTrump

  6. Wood model of the F-15C I flew at Kadena in the early 1990s. Had it made in Angeles City, Philippines, as a gift to my father, then inherited it on his passing. #EagleBot #SierraHotel

  7. They said the F-4 Phantom II proved that with enough power you could make a brick fly. I see we’ve moved on to laundry room utility sinks. #EagleBot

  8. Not linking to the video, but the Polish F-16 demo pilot was in afterburner with his nose pointed straight down at the ground at several points during his routine, including the final maneuver, and I don't understand why anyone would intentionally do that. #eaglebot #milair

  9. I often post F-15 Eagle content here. The old, now almost retired air-to-air Eagle is a single-seat fighter, but every unit had a couple of two-seaters on hand for training, check rides, and orientation flights. Here's a nice (uncredited) photo of both versions together. They're identical except for the second seat and bulgier canopy. #eaglebot #sierrahotel

  10. Stumbled on this earlier today (creator unknown) and got a laugh. Back in the days when gun cameras didn't record sound and we carried tape recorders, I had one get loose during a BFM engagement. I could see it in the mirrors, all the way back on the turtleneck (the flat surface the photoshopped raccoon is on). Negative Gs and fanning the speedbrake summoned it back, no harm done. #EagleBot #F15Eagle #SierraHotel

  11. The last F-15C has left Kadena Air Base. My last USAF flying assignment was Kadena, where I flew F-15s, so I've been following news of the drawdown. Some C models are still flying for the Air National Guard, but this was the end of an era for the active Air Force. #SierraHotel #Eaglebot

  12. You sometimes hear single-seat F-15 Eagles and two-seat F-15 Strike Eagles called "light greys" and "dark greys." Pretty good illustration of that here. #EagleBot #F15Eagle #MilAir #SierraHotel

  13. Great Ken Middleton photo. Nose wheel comes off the ground at 120 knots (138 mph) on takeoff. An unbalanced one will keep spinning for a while. When retracted it's right under you. Feels like an unbalanced tire on your car, only over several seconds the vibration slows and eventually stops. #EagleBot #F15Eagle #SierraHotel

  14. Great mid-80s photo of Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands. Talk about a cozy little airfield. Those were glory days indeed. Thanks to Mario Warnaar for the photo. #EagleBot #DutchAirNationalGuard #F15Eagle #SierraHotel

  15. Not used any more, but a big deal in the F-15 community of the 70s & 80s, the "Eagle Eye": a rifle scope mounted to the side of the HUD, used to get earlier visual IDs on targeted aircraft. #EagleBot #F15Eagle #MilAir #SierraHotel

  16. Today: F-15D Eagle runway excursion at Kingsley Field OR. Single pilot aboard, reported okay. #F15Eagle #AircraftMishap #EagleBot

  17. A friend forwarded this to me. My background is fighters, not bombers, but this reads like the species of accident report focusing on pilots wearing non-regulation socks or nametags with tactical callsigns.

Seriously, though, ground ejection is sporty to begin with, and if you weigh more than the dummies ejection seat manufacturers use to test their products, you may hit the ground before your chute opens.

  22. There's a new Air-Minded post on my blog, this one about pilot training assignment night. pwoodford.net/blog/?p=34986 #EagleBot #MilAir #SierraHotel

  23. Pffft. I've fired 20mm rounds from M61A1 Vulcan 6-barrel rotary cannons at targets moving 450 knots. And hit 'em. While sitting down. I know girls who've strafed tanks with 30mm GAU-8/As. Put up or shut up, rich boy. #EagleBot

  24. I'll take Things Only a Crew Chief or Pilot Would Find Amazing for $400, Ken. #EagleBot #MilAir #SierraHotel

  25. When I flew in Alaska we were told NTSB painted old aircraft wreckage orange so pilots flying overhead could see it was a known crash and not report it as a new one. I flew over old crash sites all the time and never saw a hint of orange, nor can I find photos of orange-painted wreckage w/Google Images. Beginning to think it was all bullshit. #crashsites #EagleBot
