Well I was out for a blast in the #e_Niro checking on other house and enjoying the Yorkshire backroads and saw one of my favourite #weirdcarmastodon cars coming towards me.
A very clean looking Alfa SZ of all things.
I’ve never seen one outside of a car show or this millennium 😍 -

Did the now seemingly traditional “Bank Holiday airport run” in the #Roadtek today.
As much as I love the #e_Niro and dislike spending £100 on fuel it made the whole escapade much nicer as we didn’t have to get 4 people and 2 dogs and luggage in the car and we didn’t need to use the service area toilets so we could stop anywhere we wanted for a comfort break and #Dog picnic.
Today it was on the Pennine Way footpath next to the Windy Hill transmitter at the top of the M62.

Just got home.
Had to go back to Harrogate (the scenic way) because we thought the postman had left a package hanging out the letterbox. Turned out he hadn’t but there was a random package for someone else left on daughter’s doorstep.
On the way we found a nice charger in a posh supermarket with cafe and had a great coffee & lunch while the car consumed electrons.
So then we thought we might as well swing by the new house to pick up mail and packages from there on the way home too.

Manchester Airport shuttle run the Saturday before Christmas!
What could possibly go wrong?Nav says 190 miles and #e_Niro says 250 range but it’s cold and dank out and I’ll be “pressing on”. Wish us luck. 😬

#Akku Wahrheit! #Kia #eNiro #Fahrschulauto #Akkuzustand, #Kosten, #Reparaturen uvm. #ev

Day off from #woodenhouse #WeirdHouse dismantling to tidy up the swan rescue before a “director’s visit” from the land owners.
Had quite a workout with the mower and fixed some things we could access with the ponds drained.
RYC #e_Niro now smells of cut grass and vomit 🤮 as Grandkid didn’t enjoy my spirited drive home from Manchester Airport to Harrogate going the scenic route and I haven’t found time to clean up properly yet 🤢

@dan the auto regen on max is ace in the #e_niro like strong engine braking when “making progress”, but lightens up at lower speed or traffic. Won’t bring you to a stop so not one peddling but I like that it creeps like old autos when you lift off brakes. It has taken 10 months leaving it in that one setting so I acclimatise to it… But now I hate all the other modes. 🤷♂️

@vwdasher I hate chasing indicators. Especially in multi lane lines of queuing traffic.
I’m not a huge fan of all the warnings “bings” but I can live with them if I know what they are warning me about.
RYC the #e_Niro usually explains what is wrong on his little screen. But there a some that I absolutely have no clue as to why he’s shouting at me, because he won’t tell me! 😤
Not being able to turn off lane assist is simply dangerous at times.

The #SoulEV is on Pirelli CINTURATO ALL SEASON SF 3 which have fantastic feel in all conditions. This IS probably why I love driving it so much. Very confidence inspiring.
And the #e_Niro is on oe spec Nexen (only because they were 1000 miles old when I bought the car) which I don’t trust in any conditions, but especially so in cold damp conditions 😬👍

@serichards @ZeKik the widely available adapters solve and actually speed up charging on “normal” fast chargers so solve the Chademo problem
Not encountered the braking on rough surfaces problem myself. It’s far more consistent than the #e_Niro. My only real complaint is the over active traction control that just cuts power completely for what seems like an eternity (when pulling out of junctions) rather than modulating it like modern systems. Perhaps they changed things for the later cars?

@serichards @ZeKik I’d absolutely not want a BEV without fast charging.
First gen #SoulEV are pocket money cheap here and would probably exceed your requirements if ya can live with its looks.
It got CarPay for the 2018 30kWh battery update. It’s an absolute hoot to thrash about in, it’s much slower and softer but more comfortable and predictable than the i3s. Ours still has 6 months warranty remaining. It’s a keep until it dies car.Is the #e_Niro too expensive?

@DenOfEarth @vwdasher #SoulEV has just had to have its rear calipers unstuck at 6.5yo. #e_Niro has rusty rear discs at 4yo.
There wasn’t much salt used on roads this winter either I probably don’t use them hard enough to dry them out

I must really ❤️ these two cars. Two baths in less than a month!!
It’s the first time in 3 months I’ve felt up to doing anything strenuous, it’s been a crap winter of virus, infections and asthma.
I now understand why people chase winter sun.
Not so #weirdcarmastodon #SoulEV #e_Niro

I often attained terminal velocity in the 1989 Astra GTE 16v which was about 130ish.
Did old Seven Bridge to M25 junction of M4 in just under an hour once.I was more scared on bikes and hardly ever cracked 100.
The Roadtrek sits happily on its speed limiter in Germany which is 100 to protect the tyres.
The #e_Niro says it did 109 which was by far the easiest to achieve without even noticing 😬

@humanhorseshoes I’m glad the #e_Niro is only fwd and on shitty tyres and that reign me back … otherwise I’d be in licence loosing mode far too frequently

RYC was such a good boy on his trip to that there London (ok around it) I gave him a bath
And found a OBD BT dongle in the shed that works with ABRP, so no 3 hour out of date battery data now! Should make long trips even more relaxing 👍

@humanhorseshoes I used to buy warm rather hot hatches I know my limits and my license if of more value than an adrenaline rush 😉
The #e_Niro is faster than I need. Accidentally saw all three digits of speedo in use as I hoofed it past some trucks 😬 before returning to 62 mph 😇

Good question. Very similar.
the #SoulEV is lighter, less powerful, and has much more weight transfer & roll as you fling it into a corner. Its suspension is cruder but you can feel what the tyres are doing ALL the time. More through bum than steering wheel. It also has “much” better tyres. It’s FUN to hustle.
The #e_Niro is more COMFORTABLE and isolating and therefore perfect for 450 miles of motorway. I haven’t dialled by bum into it yet it usually takes a few months …

I arrived home safe and sound and surprisingly relaxed. The #e_Niro was faultless. Quiet comfortable relaxing to drive in grotty weather with all it’s safety, guidance and smart cruise control systems
Even 20 minutes of crawling through rush hour traffic didn’t require me to do anything other than press go if we came to full stop. I just enjoyed the music which sounds great
3.8 m/kWh at 6-8 DegC points to well over 4 being easily achievable in summer.
Car needs a wash now

Day 2 was a short hop down to near Gatwick to my mum’s storage unit to check on some stuff with my uncle
Then the long drive back home
I hate the M1 so went Dartford Tunnel and M11. Lucky as the M1 closed for a police incident and I’d have been caught up in the congestion.
Stansted Services had no chargers free so I diverted to Sainsbury’s Smart Charge in Huntingdon where I stayed for 50 minutes to get back to 80% and more than enough charge to get home I hoped.

Second stop was to stay at Ramada by Wyndham at Cobham Services £35 and a Pizza Express next door
I charged the car back to 80% as I checked in and threw by bags on my lovely room before I ate. Ionity was more or less tap phone to pay too, once I’d worked out where to tap. Ie the low level out of eye line car reader not the big tap here to pay icon up by the big screen 🤷♂️
3.5 m/kWh at 3 DegC with cruise set at real 62 mph seems pretty good to me.

Made the first charge stop just before the store closed so I had time to go in for wee stop and buy a cof bottles of beer for later 🥳
Set Cruse at real 62 mph and lost range over the car’s estimate (expected as it doesn’t usually do motorway blasts) but comfortably beat ABRP’s wild guess 🤣
Plug-in-&-tap-phone-to-pay worked first time. I’m b lining for Smart Charge charging whenever I can.
I’ll let the car get to 80% before I set off as I’m in no rush 👍

@vwdasher less than summer … but the range indicators in the #SoulEV is pretty realistic… but it falls to 90 miles at 0 deg C with climate on and driving normally it’s more like 140 in summer
I haven’t driven the #e_Niro enough to comment yet … range indicator said 240 miles at -4 … will report back 👍

Propper #roadtrip not #Roadtrek tomorrow and Monday as I’m doing my first long trip in the #e_Niro #BEV #EV because it too cold to go in the #CamperVan
I was gonna wash car the before I left but it is too cold for that too 🥶
I’m gonna seek out as many Sainsbury’s Smart Charge chargers as possible as they are the only ones I’ve had 100% luck with so far.
Wish me luck 🤞🤣

I got a notification that the Qashqai had passed its MOT a couple of days back. It is already at a dealer the other end of the country. It’s up for double the price WBAC paid for it. Good luck to ‘em.
