I wanted to like Thunderbird for Android (formerly K9). I really did. But the lack of push notifications (until you configure them in multiple unrelated places, even though they seem on) caused me to miss some timely emails.

(And yeah, I get why there needs to be a persistent notification, but...fuck that. Oof.)

Stalwart gave self-hosters a real mail server in one binary — then left us bolting IMAP-era webmail on top.

So I wrote the one I wanted. ihasmail is a JMAP-first webmail for Stalwart: one protocol for mail, calendar, contacts, filters and files. No IMAP, no SMTP, no database of its own — the client stores nothing.

GPLv3, runs in a container, ships with a mock server so you can click around without touching real mail.

If I were to switch away from Thunderbird to another desktop email client, on linux and mac, what would you recommend?

Main criteria are:

* Traditional interface that's less weird than TB, especially for configuration.

* Ability to quickly search and move large volumes of old email. (I use pop3)

* handles multiple accounts well

* no AI

* no phoning home or telemetry

* EDIT also can import messages from thunderbird and export to a standard format (whetever that may be)

I spent hours building/testing my subscription form to deter bots without compromising accessibility. It has worked perfectly.

What I didn’t know is that my self-hosted Listmonk server has their built-in subscription form live by default. And the spammers found it.

😭

I immediately disabled it and cleaned up my list, but now I’m reconsidering the value of email for Mark Writes. RSS is far superior, but lots of folks don’t know what it is or how to use it.

Schon mal versucht, sich bei #Microsoft Live bzw. Outlook.com einzuloggen? Macht richtig Spaß – besonders, wenn man ein uraltes, per 2FA gesichertes Mailkonto löschen möchte. Der Bestätigungscode kommt natürlich nicht an. Ohne Code geht nichts. Ich versuche es jetzt noch einmal an einem weniger geschützten PC. Vielleicht klappt’s ja.

I just signed up for a free email account from @Tutanota . I had been concerned that the web-app-on-android experience wouldn't be good. A lot of webapps, when you try to access them on android, just bug you to get the android app.

Not so with Tuta! The android web experience seems to be something they put a lot of work into! It has all the functionality, as far as I can tell, and I actually like it better than the desktop experience!
