  3. One step forwards with yesterday's E-bike Positive launch, to demonstrate that e-bikes are safe, two steps back, as Merseyrail follows Transport for London's poorly evidenced ban on electric bikes (which we'll say again, are not the same thing as converted DIY motorcycles).

A worrying precedent as other rail operators assess their services & take the easy route, rather than investing in multi-modal transport infrastructure.

  7. ‘Taking the mickey’: Inner-city council tears up e-bike deal
    theage.com.au/national/victori

The City of Yarra has ended its farcical, greenwashing, multimillion dollar, six-year, on-and-off "trial" with Lime e-bikes.

Previously, there was a brief suspension of the contract due to Lime failing to pick-up their trash that had been dumped inconsiderately in bad locations by customers, and because Lime got caught saturating the city with more hire vehicles than the contract permitted. And, it's been suspected by some people that Lime had also been dumping e-bikes: trucking them into suburbs and treating public footpaths as their own depot.

This final cancellation of the Lime contract means several inner city suburbs of Melbourne will finally be rid of the problem of shitty people with shitty cycling skills and shitty attitudes to safety, who were riding shitty rental e-bikes and scooters, and making shitty decisions about where to dump them.

  9. My town is considering revising biking rules - to which I support:
    wcax.com/2026/07/14/vt-town-co

Too many class 3 "bikes" zipping around busy paths that are designed for multi-use. Such speeds need to stick to the roads. The ultimate question will be how will the rules be enforced?

  10. Warum gibt es für E-Autos eigentlich Ladestation, aber nichts für E-Bikes?

Vielleicht so Schliessfächer?

  12. Very thoughtful of some zillionaire tech bros to provide these convenient self-installing relocatable sidewalk trash receptacles! All of a sudden they're everywhere and we are using them! The grateful people of Los Angeles thank and salute our benefactors!

  14. RE: mastodon.social/@cyclingelectr

#Police definitely need better education and #testing procedures when checking #ebikes and this is quite a blunder on their part - but as an early adopter of e-bikes (from 18 years ago) I feel UK traffic authorities, #cyclling industry (and even the cycling community) sat on their arses and did nothing when they were harder to obtain premium priced items, less common on streets and even the faster ones were in the hands of middle class older white guys.

Now various bikes including those pushing boundaries of what is legal on the roads, and some which *are* blatantly illegal are affordable to food delivery riders (and general "roadman" lads who might be up to no good), and more folk from ethnic minorities there's a moral panic about these machines (on top of valid #RoadSafety concerns)

  16. Outrageous from West Midlands police. A road-legal, council-funded @ternbicycles HSD allegedly crushed, wrongly identified as a motorcycle. A local bike business out of pocket as a result; a rider without transport.

Can this become a catalyst for police education, who routinely mislabel e-motorbikes & electric bikes?
