  1. Ebikes are "becoming one of the biggest public safety challenges facing our community. Not because e-bikes are inherently dangerous. It’s because too many riders are treating them like toys instead of vehicles. Public safety officials are advising juvenile riders and their parents to get caught up on the rules of the road, and to follow them whether on two wheels or four…. We don’t need to become known as the community that wrote the toughest ordinances. We should become known as the communities that created the safest riders.” sanbenito.com/editorial-creati

  3. A new bump in the road for the long-standing EBCO e-bike brand as parent company TVS Ebike Company AG opts to limit its UK operations.

Earlier this year, new models were launched at the Core Bike Show, but those never made it to sale, and now sources tell me that EBCO is sold out in the UK and no more stock is due to land. Unfortunately, redundancies have already been made.

  5. Mostly for my own reference so I can find it later:

Anna and my eBikes both have Bosch PowerTube 500 batteries ("approximately 500 Wh," my maths say 481 based on stuff WHICH may not be complete/accurate). Official charge time 4.5 hours which seems about right, actual AC draw mid-battery at 180 watts which doesn't add up at all so presumably it's drawing less/charging more slowly at the low and high ends of battery capacity.

Regardless this maths to a minimum of three and a practical high of five full charges off one of the base solar batteries, no auxiliaries necessary, and more assuming we don't drain bike power to zero which we never do.

If we can do pure DC charging this would improve further.

  9. Sooooo... I'm wondering.

What inner tube do you use and how often do you need to patch or replace it?

I'd been using cheap unknown brands <$4 each, and have had 4 tiny punctures on the same bike's 26"x1.95" front* wheel in less than a year. 🚲🛞😕

  20. One step forwards with yesterday's E-bike Positive launch, to demonstrate that e-bikes are safe, two steps back, as Merseyrail follows Transport for London's poorly evidenced ban on electric bikes (which we'll say again, are not the same thing as converted DIY motorcycles).

A worrying precedent as other rail operators assess their services & take the easy route, rather than investing in multi-modal transport infrastructure.

  22. ‘Taking the mickey’: Inner-city council tears up e-bike deal
    theage.com.au/national/victori

The City of Yarra has ended its farcical, greenwashing, multimillion dollar, six-year, on-and-off "trial" with Lime e-bikes.

Previously, there was a brief suspension of the contract due to Lime failing to pick-up their trash that had been dumped inconsiderately in bad locations by customers, and because Lime got caught saturating the city with more hire vehicles than the contract permitted. And, it's been suspected by some people that Lime had also been dumping e-bikes: trucking them into suburbs and treating public footpaths as their own depot.

This final cancellation of the Lime contract means several inner city suburbs of Melbourne will finally be rid of the problem of shitty people with shitty cycling skills and shitty attitudes to safety, who were riding shitty rental e-bikes and scooters, and making shitty decisions about where to dump them.
