the wonderful people at REV bikes have launched a petition to allow professionally built converted ebikes (as in bicycles converted to ebikes by qualified companies) on trains in Victoria. Secure #bike storage is a growing obstacle to #cycling as a popular mode of commuting
“It’s real failure of provision, and one that’s costing the city journeys every single day. If #London is serious about getting more people on #bikes, secure, trusted parking at #transport hubs has to be a key part of that”
#cyclists preferring to store the #bike in their ‘main living space’ … driven by the rising popularity of #ebikes which require more space to store” https://road.cc/news/bike-storage-obstacles -
Police departments around the country are increasingly finding themselves in a difficult position when it comes to illegal electric motorbike riders tearing through neighborhoods, parks, and bike trails. In one Colorado town, officials are now trying a new strategy after struggling to catch many of the riders themselves: asking residents to help identify them.

Ugh kind of hate that they're lumping all e-bikes in with these assholes. These are the people who ride ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets.
My e-bike is a bicycle and I ride it like a bicycle.
I've felt for a while that police need some sort of enduro squad to chase these people. Or how about some damn drones to follow them home and shit. -
And the car propaganda keeps undermining the adoption of ebikes--"but the children! who'll think of the children?"
Meanwhile, cars kill exponentially more people, both pedestrians and cyclists. But hey, that's just the cost of existing alongside cars, right? No need to enforce existing laws there.

Looks like we'll need an MOT on ebikes, lest they explode into flames and kill a house full of people.
Or maybe better batteries that don't explode, there are alternatives to lithium, aren't there?https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/may/11/uk-firefighters-lithium-ion-battery-fires-ebikes

I tweaked my knee a few days ago and it's been quite angry with me. Thankfully, I can just bump up the assist on my e-bike and still get to work while my knee heals. #EBikes are critical mobility devices.

African hand crafted e-bikes being as response to another fuel crisis was not on my 2026 bingo card. I am happy people try to figure out how to continue despite it all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBoNsdPIt9Q #Ebikes #renewables #OilCrisis

#ebikes should not be operated on pedestrian walkways. Ever.
In general, #Bikes should have their own protected lanes. On my campus, sidewalks along actual streets have divided sidewalks where the street side is for bikes and scooters. There's a strip between that is visually different and also has a texture for #whitecane users like me.
Some street improvements in the community have a similar setup. The only downside is that #transit riders must cross the bike lane to get to and from the sidewalk. As a #blind rider, I'm always nervous when getting off the bus where there's only a sign and no shelter, though I've not encountered a bike yet. Where there's a shelter, bikes can pass behind it.
-
I wish the authorities would make some laws regarding #ebikes, and start enforcing them. An 82 yo veteran waking home from his part-time job at a local school was hit and killed on the sidewalk in our town by a 14 yo, kid who was horsing around on his ebike and lost control of it. His mama's going up on charges for it.
I'm tired of watching these unruly kids flying down the sidewalks at 30 mph without a care in the world.
We need laws! We need enforcement! #Bikes should not be on sidewalks!

E-bikes used for local reporting trips in Toronto. In a series of briefs about e-bike adoption in Canada, Emily Chung writes,
"Here's a picture of me on one of two new Tern e-bikes that just became available to CBC employees at the Toronto Broadcast Centre. I'm hoping to use them in some of my field reporting in the future.
"CBC's first e-bike launched in Halifax in 2022. My colleague Andrew Leitao came up with the idea, arguing that it could be an environmentally sustainable way to get to stories in traffic congested city centres, while saving on parking and reducing the number of vehicles needed in the CBC fleet. He thought it would also show CBC's commitment to lowering its carbon footprint in a very visible way.
"Montreal was the next location to get e-bikes – many journalists there had been using their own regular bikes in their reporting (as I do), but felt e-bikes would help them cover longer distances and hills while carrying a load of recording gear.
"CBC now has e-bikes in Moncton, Quebec City, Rimouski, Vancouver and Whitehorse too."

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 04-30-26
Work did not allow for timely Pook-Emu Bee links, but today I return with nine new links from around the web. 1 Popular WordPress redirect plugin hid dormant backdoor for years (Bill Toulas for Bleeping Computer. April 29, 2026.) Not popular enough for me to have been using it (but do attend to the issue if you happen to be running Quick Page/Post Redirect on WordPress). 2. Waylay Callais! (Josh Blackman for The Volokh Conspiracy. April 30, 2026.) After much anticipation, the Supreme […]https://social.emucafe.org/naferrell/pook-emu-bee-links-for-04-30-26/

“The findings of the paper are quite nuanced [but] the media being what it is, people just want a headline that catches attention.”
What doesn’t get as much attention from the mainstream press is the value of #ebikes in the overall effort to make streets safer by reducing car use.
#Ebikes give a much wider range of people the ability to move around”
“Better #infrastructure helps vulnerable pedestrians, too” https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/04/24/that-widely-misrepresented-e-mobility-study-actually-reveals-need-for-safer-streets-not-hysteria -
“here’s what the headlines consistently miss: the most dangerous incidents involve vehicles that aren’t legally #ebikes at all”
“Let us be clear: #ebikes are good. Half of all vehicle trips from home are less than 3 miles away, a distance easily covered by an #ebike. Further, a 2020 study stated that if 15% of car trips were replaced by #ebikes, carbon emissions could drop by 12%”
"Then there are e-motos, which are multitudes faster, more powerful, and far heavier” https://velo.outsideonline.com/ebike/ebike-culture/e-bike-injuries-alarming-rise-urbanist-update/ -
The quality of longtail cargo bikes has really come on leaps and bounds in recent years.
Step in TARRAN, a brand many of us had not heard of a few years ago, but that turned heads first with a bakfiets-style T1, a bike that was obviously big on tech integration. Now the new L1 Superior Longtail is due to market and arguably has much more relevance to the UK market at least. It's dripping with gadgets.
